Why bother with embedded videos?
Is it really that hard to click on a Youtube link? It'll make the forums slower. |

I remember some kind of star rating system for threads being introduced on the Big Brother forum.....around Christmas/New Year 2006 or 2007.
When I came back to the forum again a few weeks later, the rating system had gone, never to be mentioned again

We will be paying close attention to feedback and seeing how images work out. We will have some new guidelines in place that will prevent people from responding in just memes or just posting a picture and moving on. We anticipate they will get used in the first few days after relaunch, then it will calm down.

I think there has being a problem with the migration process during the 72 hours and non of the staff are admitting it yet.

That 'We're making some changes' article on the DS homepage does heavily imply that this was supposed to be the official changeover. So yep I imagine there were some teething issues along the way.

I opt not to imagine anything, except those voices in my head telling me to do bad things with a spoon.

I got to say that the notifications was a much needed feature, one of the main reasons I've been so inactive and not posted that much on the forums. Never liked having to constantly check the thread to see if anyone has replied to you
Really gutted it wasn't today, which I was thinking

The people who moan about pictures and videos slowing the forum down clearly don't know what they are talking about. Firstly, it's not as if DS won't know that extra pictures / videos (if they are embedded in the forum itself - highly unlikely) will require extra bandwidth. Hence why they would have the server capability and testing of this feature in place first.
Secondly, the vast majority, if not all of the videos and pictures are hosted elsewhere, like Youtube, Imgur etc. They aren't part of these forums so there is no slowing down of the forums to show them. If you're experiencing slowdowns, it's your slow connection or not that great a computer at fault, but it's certainly not DS's fault. Besides, there will surely be an option to turn the display of such content off if it helps you sleep better at night. I also imagine any pictures/videos/gif's posted will be limited in size in the thread so they don't take up too much room and they have to be clicked on to show them full size. |

If this was post-upgrade, we would 'Haha' this post.
To clarify some of the questions that have come up: - Ban amnesty: this is not a straight 'you appeal, you can come back' - we will be reviewing every account and deciding on an individual basis. If someone was incredibly disruptive, chances are we will not be allowing them back. What this does allow us to do, however, is if some time has passed and someone accumulated too many small bans, ending with a permanent ban, maybe we can allow them back. People that have re-registered again and again are unlikely to be allowed back. - Reactions: we will be introducing more positive than negative reactions. All actions are logged so we can review them all. Similarly, they are for the lurkers more-so than the regulars, though they are of course welcome to use them as well. Many members sign in and just read rather than taking part. We are also keen on the burying of poor-quality posts that are voted by the community. We can then see if there are particular trends ("does a user have many buried posts? Maybe they are doing it deliberately to disrupt the forums?...") - Embedded media: how often do you see YouTube links posted? It's a lot less often than you'd think. That is the only time a video will be in a post and they will absolutely be user-initiated (click to play). We will be paying close attention to feedback and seeing how images work out. We will have some new guidelines in place that will prevent people from responding in just memes or just posting a picture and moving on. We anticipate they will get used in the first few days after relaunch, then it will calm down. |

Really gutted it wasn't today, which I was thinking ![]() Double check your settings and or reboot. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/profi...do=editoptions I have had occasional failures over the years, for no apparent reason and for a few hours or a few days. |

Jp http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/annou...php?f=13&a=397 which gives no clue as to the timescale, apart from mentioning the 72 hour period for the data migration which has already taken place. Anything else would be speculation at the moment. |
