Reading this thread it sounds like the changes are being made to appeal to the social media crowd rather than those of us who actually enjoy proper discussion. It also sounds like the online version of a Roman gladiator contest! I think ultimately it'll lose a lot of FMs.

The people who moan about pictures and videos slowing the forum down clearly don't know what they are talking about. Firstly, it's not as if DS won't know that extra pictures / videos (if they are embedded in the forum itself - highly unlikely) will require extra bandwidth. Hence why they would have the server capability and testing of this feature in place first.

Secondly, the vast majority, if not all of the videos and pictures are hosted elsewhere, like Youtube, Imgur etc. They aren't part of these forums so there is no slowing down of the forums to show them. If you're experiencing slowdowns, it's your slow connection or not that great a computer at fault, but it's certainly not DS's fault. Besides, there will surely be an option to turn the display of such content off if it helps you sleep better at night. I also imagine any pictures/videos/gif's posted will be limited in size in the thread so they don't take up too much room and they have to be clicked on to show them full size.
Good to see another positive post on this we've waited years for DS to be brought up to date like most other forums bring it on I say.

The only official information any of us have, as far as I know, is the original announcement

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/annou...php?f=13&a=397

which gives no clue as to the timescale, apart from mentioning the 72 hour period for the data migration which has already taken place.

Anything else would be speculation at the moment.
The data can only have been migrated already if they are able to merge with it all the new data since it went back online, plus anything missed on their first attempt, either as a separate run or on the fly to both databases with a hopefully shorter read-only period than last time.

They are being a bit mysterious about it so as you say we can but speculate. My guess is that they'll have to do the entire migration again at some point in the future, hopefully with a bit more notice than they gave us last time!

I have had occasional failures over the years, for no apparent reason and for a few hours or a few days.
Mine too have always worked fine.

Hopefully the new site will be better on mobile. The current one is a bit difficult sometimes.

The problem is lots of people post just YouTube links to songs with the only way to see what it is is to click on the links. It can be really annoying when there's lots of them. A better idea would be to make YouTube links show the title.
IIRC it is an option on some forum software to automatically parse links to the title. Actually I think it's possible on some versions of vBulletin, although it might be an add-on that DS never used.

I knew you wouldn't be that insane to let people see openly who liked /disliked posts
Yep, a pretty rare occurrence any site letting people see who "dislikes them" I knew DS wouldn't.

Although like/dislike is a pointless feature imo, if you don't know who did them. Better not to have it at all is my view.

It's not the 90s now, I just rather YouTube videos show up on the forum nowadays.

I wish DS would focus on making the main site one people actually want to visit.

A site I post on called Sportshoopla does, it doesn't cause too much drama tbh. They have like 10 or 11 possible reactions depending on which subforum you are in though (including one, "Rainbow", which used to be called "Gaaaaay!" until someone complained).

I can 100% see the logic in not identifying who liked or disliked a post though.

Blimey it's taking a lot longer than they anticipated to get the new site up and running hope whatever problems they are having are soon solved and we get our new super-duper forum.

Is the Tech Team working over Christmas? Might be wise to do it in the New Year.

Do it on CBB launch night. That'll ruffle a few feathers.

I don't like the sound of it tbh, I might be giving it a wide berth

Such a lot of negativity. People have been moaning for the longest time, and yet when they finally attempt to do something, they continue to moan. Seems they can't win. As another poster said, bring it on drag Ds into 2017 and have an uptodate and fun forum to use.

Being honest Minnie Minz with them doing no serious upgrades for years I feared they were running it into ground and eventually it would be shut down. I am so happy they have decided to totally upgrade it I love DS more than any other message board facility I have ever been on and I can't wait for the launch.

How do you get onto the mobile version? (I'm assuming here you mean the mobile version of the forums, not the main DS site)
