Hi DS Mods I recently posted a request on the "Contact Digital Spy" forum and I can't seem to find it anymore? My account was accepted but I have no idea if I am allowed to take part in the DS world?

Grateful for any help as I don't want to take advantage.
Hi there, the fact that you can post means your account is active.

Try add-ons such as No-Squint Plus and Zoom Page for different Page and Text zoom levels.

(These suit me in Firefox. Not sure which other browsers support them, or similar, just now)
NoSquint has done the trick, what a great little addon. Zoom in a web page and adjust the text to whatever I want. Can even change background colours. Nice!

This is what DS looks like for me now: http://i.imgur.com/34QaEKl.png

Yes that's a very good point I should have mentioned before I use Google Chrome and Stylish probably only works in that.
Stylish is available in FF. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=fi...utf-8&oe=utf-8

I prefer Digital Spy Forums - Retro (No avatars or in-line piccies)

Hi Scots Rool. I made the account. THEN sent the message and I think it was approved before they saw it? Then the forum vanished so they couldn't reply. Nothing in my mail or email...

I don't want to get in bother before even starting

Thanks for replying, I'm Christopher, how're you?

Don't worry about it, you're ''in'' now. Probably your timing had a lot to do with the mods not replying to your message. The forum was on shutdown for 72 hours or thereabouts.

I'm fine thank you, just relax & enjoy yourself.

The posts usually do vanish from that section. I've no idea why though.

DS can be a bit weird, things not working properly and generally clunky but it should be improving soon.

Welcome.

I'm using the mobile version. It keeps randomly signing me out or switching to the desktop version when I go to another page. I hope this among other issues is ironed out.

I'm using the mobile version today and it's being a complete pain!

After loading the page then bounces as I try to type and occasionally the keyboard disappears to be replaced with an advert, which obviously I click on accidentally.

I'm so pleased that DS is in working order again, and anything small can be ironed out eventually. Christmas Greetings to DS support and all

(we bet you thought this was a different type of announcement, no?)

Hi all,

We will be initiating work to upgrade the forums to a new platform soon.

Search - we will be gaining an advanced search. You will once again be able to search through users, posts, threads and forums.

Notifications - any time someone replies to your thread or mentions you, a notification will pop up on your screen.

Reactions - you will be able to react to any post.

Ban Amnesty - In 16 years, we have amassed over 16,000 banned accounts. Starting now, we are going to be reviewing anyone who chooses to appeal their ban again. Those wishing to appeal should email forum@digitalspy.co.uk with the title 'Ban Amnesty'. Be sure to include your forum username when messaging!

Jail - Our new forum software brings with it a points based warning system. This means that rather than issuing bans for smaller offences, we can place users in jail - this allows you to stay on the forum but certain privileges will be lost (the ability to make threads being one of them).

Forum Updates - with this change, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to review the many different forums we have on offer and whether they are still necessary. As such, the following are our current proposed changes:

- Fashion & Beauty will be merged into General Discussion.
- Comics will be merged into its parent forum, Print Media.
- Gaming Forums will receive a restructuring; PC and Mac Gaming & Mobile Gaming will be merged into the main Gaming forum, with more focus being placed on the major consoles
- Need Help? Ask the Digital Spy team: This forum will be archived. We will be making ways to contact the forum team more visible, so the need for this forum will be replaced.
- Netflix and BT Vision will be merged into Online Entertainment Services
- Doctor Who will be promoted to the main board.
- Football will be promoted to the main board.
- Dancing with the Stars will be merged into the Reality TV forum.

No threads should be lost in this process, however if you want to save anything we would recommend looking at it now.

New Forum Design, Emojis and auto-save - The forums will be getting a new lick of paint and our current emojis, including fan-favourite cat-dog will be retired. All posts created will now periodically save as a draft.

Embedded Media - With this new forum software, we will be lifting the restriction on embedded media. As an example, if you link to a YouTube video it will automatically embed into your post for users to play without the need to leave the site.

There are several new functions and ideas that we have and when we flesh them out a little more, we will of course announce them in a similar way.

We know this is a lot of change and that we haven't always got it right. We ask that you will be patient with us, both before and after the migration, while we try and iron things out. We expect that some things will not be correct immediately but hope this will go as smoothly as possible.

Thanks
DS

Fabulous upgrade isn't it. None of the above etc - what were you doing for three days?

"Place users in jail"

"16,000 banned accounts"

It's like you're proud of it? About time DS made patrons feel welcome and stopped treating the place like it's a school then.

This...........
We will be initiating work to upgrade the forums to a new platform soon. This will be the first time since the Digital Spy community began 16 years ago that we are moving to a completely new platform - no small task as we prepare to move over 600,000 users and over 84 million posts
It would be nice for DS Forum Support (who were quite active and jolly pre-downtime but haven't made a squeak since the return announcement) to give us some sort of update.

I thought we'd be on our nice new forum for Christmas but that's not going to happen. It would be nice to know a bit more though.

First the Forum was not down for three days, it was much nearer 2 days when in any case it was never completely down, only for new posts.. The fact that some posters cannot read and understand the Forum Announcements from DS which were on display at all times, is possibly why some members believe they are being treated like schoolchildren.

When the Forum upgrade is completed in the New Year, I am sure it will be worth waiting for.

You can Alert your own Post and ask a Polite Question, you know?

As long as thousands don't do it, I'm sure you'll get a nice reply or they may say something here.

DSFS posted this on another thread:
To clarify, we always intended to do this in a few stages. The first stage was to see how long a data scrape of this magnitude would take. This was done offline with a fairly recent, but older backup.

The second was the purpose of the read-only: to see if everything from our 9-year-old version of vBulletin will transfer correctly to our new platform and system. As we said in the announcement, based on the length it time it took to download and upload the old backup, we anticipated this being 72 hours. This ended up being accurate, though we quickly noticed a few items not being transferred properly due to incompatibility. We think we have identified fixes for those objects and we are now sitting on a fresh data dump which should mean the next time (which we are anticipating to be early next year) will only need to be the difference between last Wednesday and the day we make forums read-only again. We're hoping this means we can reduce further down time even more, but we will see how testing of the fixes vs. compatibility goes first.

I wish DS would focus on making the main site one people actually want to visit.
This a million times.

Such a lot of negativity. People have been moaning for the longest time, and yet when they finally attempt to do something, they continue to moan. Seems they can't win. As another poster said, bring it on drag Ds into 2017 and have an uptodate and fun forum to use.
I haven't. I'm perfectly happy with the forums as they are apart from the search function not working. A working search function with the current forum format would be fine for me

It certainly has not, I just did a search on the name of a recent thread in Freeview ("Front Runner TV"), and got
received zero-sized searchd response

You can either put it in manually, or click on where it says [More] at the right hand side where the smilies are. He's in there.
