Great news about an upgrade. Can we please go back to the original colour scheme

No, you have an underscore, not a space. Your name will be fine as it is.

I'd be happier if there were an option in settings that allowed us to disable the embedded media. Just my two penn'orth.

If this was post-upgrade, we would 'Haha' this post.

To clarify some of the questions that have come up:

- Ban amnesty: this is not a straight 'you appeal, you can come back' - we will be reviewing every account and deciding on an individual basis. If someone was incredibly disruptive, chances are we will not be allowing them back. What this does allow us to do, however, is if some time has passed and someone accumulated too many small bans, ending with a permanent ban, maybe we can allow them back. People that have re-registered again and again are unlikely to be allowed back.

- Reactions: we will be introducing more positive than negative reactions. All actions are logged so we can review them all. Similarly, they are for the lurkers more-so than the regulars, though they are of course welcome to use them as well. Many members sign in and just read rather than taking part. We are also keen on the burying of poor-quality posts that are voted by the community. We can then see if there are particular trends ("does a user have many buried posts? Maybe they are doing it deliberately to disrupt the forums?...")
Some of the banned users are very popular though, even if they have re registered and re banned. I think most of us would like the funny but harmless ones back, it would be good if the reactions could be taken into account.

It would be good to see the mods posting in the forums again. I remember a few being really whitty in some of their comments.

How many times have you seen a "I agree" or "This!" post? I think I can count on one hand how many of those I've read.

Not sure what the relevance to lurking is. If you lurk, you're not contributing. If you click a thumbs down, you're not contributing.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Discourages discussion; just click the thumbs up/angry face and run.

So does that mean the forum will run in a similar fashion to Reddit?

Thumbs up threads/posts dominate the top of the board over the latest ones?

Also, didn't realise we'll be getting images... worst idea ever. Will we be able to turn off that feature?
It's posts like this that puts lurkers off from posting.

I hope that the new Notifications can be switched off. If you started an incredibly popular thread or, indeed, if you're simply just incredibly popular, it could get a bit annoying.

And I did a double take on the Ban Amnesty heading. I thought, what have Amnesty done to earn the wrath of DS?

Horrible idea - how can you discuss something when posts hop about depending who has clicked a little button? All it takes is a few annoying people pushing like or not and off goes your contribution, hardly a way to encourage lurkers surely - they'd be terrified their posts would disappear.

I've always felt the discussion is what it is, whether people post well or not - at least you read it in a linear fashion from start to finish and it's conversational.

I agree with you - terrible idea.

Posts will not move based on reactions, the design of them will change based on their ranking. Buried posts for example become 'minimized' (while maintaining their position in the thread) with users needing to click to read them, similar to how the ignore function works here at the moment. The chronology of posts is something we are very keen to preserve.

Will look into media being disabled as a user option. Not seeing it at the moment but it is certainly something we can investigate if we choose to go live with it.

It will be good to have a fully functioning search facility again. Not sure about the ban amnesty., and definitely don't like the idea of posts becoming non-linear.

Please can we have the yawn and rolleyes emojis back.

Will there be a report button next to images and videos or any kind of auto detection for porn or spam bots?

No doubt some wag will take up the opportunity to post their w*** bank late one night.

I've no problem with porn but it certainly doesn't belong on DS.

Notification preferences are quite in-depth, currently you are able to:

- Turn on/off notifications by the forum (so any time someone posts in TV, for example)
- Turn on/off notifications for threads created by you or bookmarked by you
- Turn on/off notifications that mention you by username
- Turn on/off notifications for threads you have participated in
- Turn on/off notifications on private messages

Yes, all posts will continue to have a report button. We will be treating abuse like the example above very seriously.

A couple or so questions is the notification function switchable on and off. I would find it annoying to have messages come up on screen?

Will advertising be less obtrusive?

What happens to the "Chatter" Forum

I see my first question has just been answered

Hopefully they will let us have a post count for posting there

I would like it even better if they moved our TTN thread to the soap games room.

Will you be allowing avatars as part of the upgrade? A lot of forums nowadays allow you to login via Twitter - will that be an option now?

Thanks for clarifying. Maybe I'm a bit too keen, I just tried to find a 'like' button when I read your response

Great news about allowing name changes.

If we change our name, will our new name or old name appear in archived/old posts if we are quoted? I assume old name, but would be great if new name!

Can I suggest an Appreciation section, which can include the horrendous boobs on TV thread, and the regular Rachel Riley pervathons? I'd imagine that many would support the idea of having a special corner for the binocular collectors. It seems preferable to them getting in the way of the telly forum. We get told to ignore them, but it's a bit difficult when they're almost ever-present. Again, just a thought... and this seems to be the right time for thoughting.
