That's good to know .. I can finally drop the "Watkins" at last because i'm so creative in my user name choices
Oh oh oh I'm thinking up a new name already as I have a space! it's like christmas up'inhurr
I'm happy with lordOfTime, myself. Don't want to change my DS identity.

oooh I can't wait for the changes.

By the way, to the support team, over the last week or so I've been having problems with the Flash plugin freezing the browser page when viewing the site and the forums. This is in Chrome and Firefox. It seems to have sorted itself out in the last few days but is it something your techy guys are aware of and looking to move away from?

It's posts like this that puts lurkers off from posting.
What exactly is the issue you have with my post?

I'm merely expressing my opinion on why I dislike the idea of 'reactions'. Isn't that the point of this thread? Isn't that the point of a forum?

I can't wait for the new forum - I will be able to click the thumbs down to the thread to show my dislike of it instead of, you know, actually discussing why I dislike it! And folk like yourself who seem easily upset and offended won't have to read differing views, you can just look at the like/dislike ratio instead of reading opinions which put you off posting.

No to avatars, yes to Twitter.
Great news that, DS Support, they just clutter the place up unnecessarily.

Aye, they looked good about a decade or two ago.

How many times have you seen a "I agree" or "This!" post? I think I can count on one hand how many of those I've read.

Not sure what the relevance to lurking is. If you lurk, you're not contributing. If you click a thumbs down, you're not contributing.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Discourages discussion; just click the thumbs up/angry face and run.

So does that mean the forum will run in a similar fashion to Reddit?

Thumbs up threads/posts dominate the top of the board over the latest ones?

Also, didn't realise we'll be getting images... worst idea ever. Will we be able to turn off that feature?
I think having the option to place images on the pages is a fantastic idea personally, well done DS.

Posts will not move based on reactions, the design of them will change based on their ranking. Buried posts for example become 'minimized' (while maintaining their position in the thread) with users needing to click to read them, similar to how the ignore function works here at the moment. The chronology of posts is something we are very keen to preserve.

Will look into media being disabled as a user option. Not seeing it at the moment but it is certainly something we can investigate if we choose to go live with it.
That's just a pain in the butt.

I don't care what other users think of a post - I want to make my own mind up about the post. To have to click every individual 'buried' post will get annoying. Basically, if your opinion is in the minority, you're screwed.

If an FM takes a disliking to you, it'd be very easy for them just to dislike all of your posts in the hopes of buring it.

Don't like the burying posts idea. Open to abuse and it'll disrupt the flow of trying to follow all the sides of a debate in a thread when half the posts have been buried in it.

I really like the idea that the community will be able to down vote posts and that they will be less prominent. So much time and effort is wasted on DS with people posting absolute nonsense that then triggers waves upon waves of replies attacking and defending said nonsense. I don't wan't to engage i arguments with people about whether black is white or whether the sun rises in the morning or the evening. Lets ignore the trolls/time wasters and get on with discussing things that are real.

The same old crappy "memes" and "gifs" are going to pop up time and time again with the FM posting it thinking they're hilarious. Not to mention them slowing the forum right down.

I don't see what they can possibly add to a discussion but as long as we're able to disable the feature, I won't care.

But you can already do that. If you don't like a thread, walk away.

That would be like me saying I don't like Doctor Who, delete the whole section, it's a waste of time. No, I just don't go there.

These 'reactions' will just lead to a lot more negativity around here. People will be down voting anything they disagree with, whether it's an obvious troll trolling or a well thought out argument that people don't want to hear.

You are assuming that enough people will dislike a post for it to be buried. We're not sure how much the system will be used, if at all, so only time will tell. We don't think you will see a buried post as often as you are expecting. A 'downvote' is countered by an 'upvote' so just because one person dislikes a post does not mean it will buried. The reaction feature will be an ecosystem that is controlled by our forum members.

The sad thing is, this conversation right here is what we can look forward to.

A comment, followed by a gif/meme, followed by a 'reaction'.

Fantastic, who wouldn't want to join such a debate?

It all sounds great apart from the amnesty

But I am quite excited for the emoji's and not having to use google to search
WE GET A WORKING SEARCH.

I'm excited for that alone.

That's what's so scary about it! I don't want my time here to be controlled by other FMs.

I couldn't care less whether people love or hate my opinion - they can quote me and debate me and tell me why themselves, instead of having them play at being a mod.

I can already see the easily offended drooling over this new format. They're in heaven.

You will not need to connect your Twitter or Facebook account to your already existing account if you do not wish to do so. The new log in functionality is simply for those wishing to register faster, or to log in at the click of a button without having to input credentials.

Why is my post being ignored?
Tiny the emoji is unfortunately quite old and is on his way out. It would be cruel to keep him going.
