I love the up/down vote idea, works so well on many forums and places like Reddit and encourages positive contributions.

Love we're getting new emojis (please allow rolleyes to return)! Love also we're getting notifications upgrades and working search.

Embedded media will be good sparingly as well. People will be able to post graphs and such to posts.

When will the upgrade happen I wonder? I am hoping it's InvisionPower the forums will be run on as that's very good, fast software.

Will the posts made in General Discussion (and Chatter!) now go towards our post count, as I'm still annoyed that I lost 2000+ posts when our thread moved

I disagree with your first sentence, so for that reason I dislike your post, so I'm down voting it.

It can all get very petty, very quickly. Positive contributions, you say?

You will not need to connect your Twitter or Facebook account to your already existing account if you do not wish to do so. The new log in functionality is simply for those wishing to register faster, or to log in at the click of a button without having to input credentials.

Tiny the emoji is unfortunately quite old and is on his way out. It would be cruel to keep him going.
I didn't even know he had a name!

(don't tell me is going too?)

DS mods can I ask two things:

- Will this be before Christmas?
- What is the new software you've opted for?

I am so excited.

Old Wilfred is also packing his bags. His ending is happier as he is fulfilling a life long dream of visiting the various active volcanoes the world has to offer.

@James J - we can't announce a time frame just yet and we have to keep tight lipped on the software for now. Sorry, boring answers.

Perhaps you can give us a sneak peek at the new emoji set? To whet our appetite.

Common sense tends to prevail with these systems.

As long as the confused face stays, that's my most-used emoji!

Connie has been called for jury duty for a very long case, so is going to be MIA.

Aww. Sad - but understandable.

Regarding username changes for those who have spaces, I am one of those poor souls. Will our usernames be automatically changed to remove spaces or, how will that work? I don't think usernames with 2 characters were allowed before, could my username become "JJ" in the new system?

I hope it is soon. Before Christmas would be great but it may be too soon. If not, hopefully soon into the new year. Been waiting for this day for so long!

Another thought - will existing emojis still show on old posts but with new styles? or will they all be lost?

Don't like the burying posts idea. Open to abuse and it'll disrupt the flow of trying to follow all the sides of a debate in a thread when half the posts have been buried in it.
Burying posts will be very annoying, I too want to decide for myself if a post is worth reading without having to click each one to open them up.

You are assuming that enough people will dislike a post for it to be buried. We're not sure how much the system will be used, if at all, so only time will tell. We don't think you will see a buried post as often as you are expecting. A 'downvote' is countered by an 'upvote' so just because one person dislikes a post does not mean it will buried. The reaction feature will be an ecosystem that is controlled by our forum members.
If the system may not be used much, possibly not at all, it seems illogical to have it unless it's user controllable. Why not let those who like it use it, and those who don't to have all posts displayed in full?

Why does post count matter? Do you get a gold medal if you go over a certain number? (checks post count... )

That is great, The only time my Twitter should be mentioned is on the username below the post count. Through I am not sure if the new system will have that Twitter icon.

No but the only thread I posted in was the one in the soap section which got moved, and since it's been moved I've got a really low postcount as opposed to the less shy members.

Some of my initial thoughts/suggestions

-However positive an idea you think it might be, the reactions addition has got 'disaster' written all over it and should be reconsidered. Burying posts will be open to a lot of abuse.
-Please give us an option to have media displayed as links like it is now. Seeing DS clogged up with pics and videos like FB and Twitter is...nope, not keen.
-New colour scheme...please make it better than this horrible beige/grey style. A return to the old white/blue would be perfect.
-New emotes...not thrilled as I love the current ones, but at the very least can we keep ?

I'm sure that pro religion posts will be buried ASAP by the majority.

I think people underestimate how many positive people lurk on here.

I think the up/down system will actually bring more positivity to the forums, rather than the other way round. A lot of the doom and gloom comes from moaning minnies, whereas positive people are less inclined to write (I think!)

Or it could be like reddit where the hive mind attacks a post because it doesn't agree with the current fan favourite on whatever tv show it refers to.
good times
