Or it could be like reddit where the hive mind attacks a post because it doesn't agree with the current fan favourite on whatever tv show it refers to.

Aww. Sad - but understandable.
Regarding username changes for those who have spaces, I am one of those poor souls. Will our usernames be automatically changed to remove spaces or, how will that work? I don't think usernames with 2 characters were allowed before, could my username become "JJ" in the new system? I hope it is soon. Before Christmas would be great but it may be too soon. If not, hopefully soon into the new year. Been waiting for this day for so long! |

Are we allowed to post an image with a swear on it rather than typing it?

Well it's worth a try! If it doesn't work, disable down voting and only allow up voting!

Will posters be aware of the names of those up or down voting please? That could be very interesting

DS Forum Support -
Do you know if the new software will finally remove the advert problem? As in pages bouncing around for many seconds, loading multiple video / audio adverts at once, hogging system resources causing computers to crash, double scroll bar and malware. I do look forward to turning off the ad blocker once again. |

Oooh. Exciting. Thank you DS.
![]() I can just imagine how the likes/dislikes will go down on the Politics forum. As for me, I shall be totally sensible about it.

Sounds fine except the reaction bit.
It's suppose to be a discussion board. So many will now just click on a reaction and leave it at that instead of adding any actual discussion. Leave that nonsense to Facebook, please. |

When it says "over 16,000 banned account", I can't help thinking it's more like 160,000 banned accounts

Xenforo is de rigueur at the moment - it'll either be that or IPB Pro, one imagines. Unless they're upgrading to a better version of VBulletin.
Another forum I go on uses Xenforo and you can actually @ people with spaces in their username. I'm looking forward to this, the current forums do feel a bit creaky. And the idea of a working search makes me happy. It's a faff having to open another tab and search for threads in Google where, unless you know the specific name of the thread you're looking for, the results can often be quite random. |

Mostly sounds good. Hate the burying posts idea though. Can you imagine the politics forum. I can just see it becoming a completion on which side of every argument can bury the others side's posts.
If we have to have it please allow an option to turn it off. I like to make my own mind up whether a post is worthwhile and don't agree with censorship by the mob, which is what it will become. |

I've only just spotted this thread and read all 5 pages, thinking and digesting as i went along. Lo! Yours was the last post and I was about to post the same. And while I am excited at Innovation, this burying concept seems, to me, open to abuse. There are already frequent accusations of Silencing in threads. Seems to provide a ready method to do it? |

I imagine that this new system will mean that Stylish styles which people have created will cease to work.

Improved search - Good
Notifications - fine if they can be turned off Embedded media - Not good unless there is an option to hide/turn off Reactions reactions and voting up/down - Just no, it isn't Facebook or Twitter.

Will the posts made in General Discussion (and Chatter!) now go towards our post count, as I'm still annoyed that I lost 2000+ posts when our thread moved

Reading their announcement I have to say its a right direction to move into and I am glad they will be reviewing bans if people want to appeal. The jail idea is also a great way of not over reacting and just banning someone for life.

^^^ This in Spades
I've only just spotted this thread and read all 5 pages, thinking and digesting as i went along. Lo! Yours was the last post and I was about to post the same. And while I am excited at Innovation, this burying concept seems, to me, open to abuse. There are already frequent accusations of Silencing in threads. Seems to provide a ready method to do it? Personally, I have a lot of faith in the reasonable behaviour of the majority. Most people are happy to engage in a respectful way and make decent contributions. Often they say or do things that I don't agree with (Brexit ) but that's life. What I find is a major problem on DS is the vocal minority who are either ignorant, belligerent or just outright trolls. It's easy to say ignore them but often they derail threads by encouraging the more responsible posters to counter their ridiculous never-ending arguments. I believe in debate and freedom of speech but there has to be a line you draw where you're just wasting your time engaging in 'flat earth' arguments. Or replying to post after post on the advice forum that are making harsh judgmental comments rather than giving actual advice. The down vote process will allow the majority to have their say on these posts in a constructive way without fueling the troll fire. |

Don't like the burying posts idea. Open to abuse and it'll disrupt the flow of trying to follow all the sides of a debate in a thread when half the posts have been buried in it.

Well it saves those posts that just say Agree. Plus it gives lurkers a chance to enter the thread slowly, giving them confidence. I lurk most of the time and have only recently started to post more, so a thumbs up or down button is fine by me.
