I just hope this upgrade doesn't mirror what happened to the main site i.e. making it virtually unusable.

Please allow us to disable notifications.

I don't wish to be notified if I make a thread that is popular for some time, some threads get consistent posts in them for months and months.

I sure hope you're not about to ruin the forums, at least the search functions can't get any worse.

I'd strongly suggest that new users not be allowed to embed media, nobody wants to be sneakily stalking the forums at work and come across a thread that someone has posted Pornhub into

Why?

The forum software is a surprise but who knows why?

Probably because they are still evaluating available Products or haven't agreed Contract Terms yet?

I am far too excited about this for my own good

Love the idea of like/dislike, although as someone who can polarise opinion I expect to get my fair share of downvotes, and well such is life. I won't be whining about it. Often I'll browse the forums but not bother posting as I don't want to just say "this", even though I agree with every word of a post. Being able to just hit "like" will be great and also for those to build up confidence to post.

New emjois, being able to post pics and vids. About time! hooray! and while I'm no expect I don't think in 2017 having a few vids posted is going to bring a forum to a slow stop.

Notifications, as long as we can turn them off, great.

Twitter login. I keep that separate from here but I know some will love that, so great stuff.

Banned members, If I've read correctly they won't automatically get in. It will be reviewed, if you were an a-hole then and you're still an a-hole now, you probably won't be allowed back. Some members have been banned because of petty disputes, with other members who then mass alert, hopefully they will be given another chance.

I like it, well done DS and the mods for posting about it putting an end to the "FORUMS ARE BEING DELETED!!" rubbish, and letting us know what's going on

I liked the bit that said "(we bet you thought this was a different type of announcement, no?)"

Anything pro-remain will get buried on the Politics forum. No balanced discussion.
Prepare for 'flat earth' argument and 'troll' designation. I suspect threads will be much shorter and filled with agreement.

I hope there isn't a radical flashy redesign; the current style is nice and suits workplace browsing without drawing attention.

I agree. It's aesthetically pleasing atm so I'm hoping it stays the same too. I would prefer a less washed out colour than what we have now though.

I also love the idea of a like button but not a dislike button.

Good to hear that the forum support will become more visible to the mods because I sent a help question to them months ago and have heard nothing.

It's nice having mods posting more, I miss that and hope it continues.

Can't wait for the new format. Thank you DS.

Images and video is coming so you you may want to turn that off if using the forum in a workplace.

Looks like it might. And just imagine any GD threads about Muslims. Would prefer upvotes only.

Still, on a positive note, proper search function!

From my experience here there are more pro remain here than Brexiters. It will likely be the other way round

Nope, the politics section tilts toward the right and Leave. The polls on that forum had Leave winning by a big margin, far bigger than the referendum.

Edit: Here we are, Leave nearly 50% ahead of Remain.

I'm very happy with the proposed changes to the website, not everything will please everyone obviously but it does sound good to me.

I'd love it if they could set it up with a choice for different colour schemes so we can choose from a selection how we want Digital Spy to look on our own devices. Embedded videos and graphics on the pages is a great improvement too it will mean we can stay on the site and not have to enter another one to view something we want to see.

Any extra length of time spent on DS is a bonus to the owners and the advertisers so I can see why they want to do it.

Good idea about allowing usernames changes and also reviewing banned members from the past I know one straight away who has always felt it unjust that he was booted out so I'm hoping he can have another chance.

Thank you DS I look forward to it all.

Just updated original announcement with the following as we have received a number of messages asking:

Similarly, users that have had their accounts terminated (but haven't been physically deleted) are also able to request a return. In this instance please title your email 'Terminated Account'.
(Previously users that "terminated" their account were unable to return with either a new name and the process was irreversible. Please note this is only possible if your account was banned and the information was wiped from it, not if it was physically deleted).

Probably because we're on opposite sides of the debate. We notice the opposite side because it winds us up more

There's a few remain folks who stand out like a sore thumb.
You see their name and you know what the subject matter will be before you even open the thread.
