Some great new and innovative ideas there, especially "reactions" and "jail".
No way will Jail be ever positive, as the dark side of humans is always there. But it might work if Jail was out of sight

How many times have you seen a "I agree" or "This!" post? I think I can count on one hand how many of those I've read.

Not sure what the relevance to lurking is. If you lurk, you're not contributing. If you click a thumbs down, you're not contributing.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Discourages discussion; just click the thumbs up/angry face and run.

So does that mean the forum will run in a similar fashion to Reddit?

Thumbs up threads/posts dominate the top of the board over the latest ones?

Also, didn't realise we'll be getting images... worst idea ever. Will we be able to turn off that feature?
Browsed another forum once, and all the users had images, and very little discussion content, and wasn't a place to hang out in for very long, and hope DS won't go that way.

I think having the option to place images on the pages is a fantastic idea personally, well done DS.
They would add clutter to a page, especially if the images are large!

Why is my post being ignored?
That's one buried post for sure, if you don't say more.

I really don't like the idea of posts increasing in size if they're voted for more, it devalues less popular posters who may be making a good point but don't get upvoted, and it turns the forum into a popularity contest instead of a place for reasoned debate. Plus it could get trolled very easily.
That already happens, but less noticeable, but the forum upgrade could have people leaving, for why should they stay.

I don't use Reddit much but from some bits I have read there have been a few people that make a comment, it gets down voted, then they make another comment along the lines of "come on guys, why the down votes". That adds nothing to the thread. I don't like the voting option I'm afraid.

As someone else mentioned, I'd also like the option to turn off/on embedded media.

Excited about the search function though 😀

You are assuming that enough people will dislike a post for it to be buried. We're not sure how much the system will be used, if at all, so only time will tell. We don't think you will see a buried post as often as you are expecting. A 'downvote' is countered by an 'upvote' so just because one person dislikes a post does not mean it will buried. The reaction feature will be an ecosystem that is controlled by our forum members.
I don't think that that's going to work very well. While an individual either likes or dislikes something (the two being mutually exclusive) that is not true of people (plural). It's entirely possible that a post could be liked and disliked by many people in roughly equal measure, and it will be indistinguishable from posts that are.. how shall I put it..? neither here nor there.

If DS turns into a popularity contest I'm out of here. I'd rather be respectfully confronted by someone who disagrees with me, perhaps even have my mind changed by their counterargument, rather than 'playing for points'. And having smoke blown up my arse sounds equally repugnant.

I agree. There's no point in refraining from saying what you think because it isn't the majority opinion. Or saying things because you think will be popular.

Threads will be very short. Yeah agree, agree the end.

Why ? Is that the reason you post just to boost your count (which no one cares about)?

The worst thing that could happen is to turn this place into a twitter / facebook clone with people desperate for "likes". The problem is a lot of people are self obsessed sheep who are desperate for approval from strangers, just to make themselves feel better about themselves. These people will lap it up.

Im on another forum, where post counts or join date arent even shown. No one cares. You get to know people by name. Everyone is equal. Works perfectly fine.

No need for stylish now when you have a updated forums with themes that DS could add.
I don't think they've said themes are to be introduced but I would certainly welcome it if they did it, it'd be great if we had a choice of different skins like some other websites do.

I also like avatars but for whatever reason we aren't going to get them according to the announcement, not meaning to sound negative however the changes mentioned so far are great barring the burying of posts which many also aren't keen on.

I didn't really do anything, unlike James who created his own Style

I'm using the Stylish add-on for Firefox and Chrome browsers and a Style, "Retro" by Emjay:

https://userstyles.org/styles/browse...ms=digital+spy

There are a few others to choose from, I think this is James' style:

https://userstyles.org/styles/120677...rums-blue-flat

There's also an add-on for Chrome by Stormwave that lets you add things like avatars, inline pictures and videos:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...ajoghekgmijcbd
Can I just say thank you for the links, I already use Stylish but the bottom link I have found very useful indeed thank you again Avidian.

Not if they give an option to disable them Dix which I think they probably will.

Just for info about the likes system.
here is another forum running XenForo that has likes and embedded media
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threa...eports.606990/
If it uses XenForo and works like this I will be happy

Ooh, that's much easier to read than DS. Loaded pretty quickly too. That said, I hope we have the option to turn off visual content.

I think that the ability to post images will have advantages in the technical sections where people often want things (like plugs and sockets) identified and have to rely on using sites like Flickr to upload them and then post a link.

Everything looks and feels the same. Did the bods in the office have too much mulled wine at lunch and now given up?

Maybe they've temporarily connected the old setup back and are still doing the upgrade on the new one.
