Ban Amnesty

In 16 years, we have amassed over 16,000 banned accounts. Starting now, we are going to be reviewing anyone who chooses to appeal their ban again. Those wishing to appeal should email forum@digitalspy.co.uk with the title 'Ban Amnesty'. Be sure to include your forum username when messaging!

I know one , just told my wee bro and hes not interested at all, "**** them I have moved on" and he is pissed of at the frivolous reason for his ban on a BB Forum.

I wonder how many more are like him?

What's the point? Rumours are DS will be gone next year anyway.

Yes but overall good news about changing the site. Plus no more direct bans, but a points system where being locked in jail for a few days to calm down

btw where does your wee bro go to post instead of DS. I've looked but still couldn't find better. DS has quietened down so much over the years and many many great posters have left. I just wondered where they went. Some were so prolific that I can't believe they just stayed quietly indoors watching TV or reading newspaper without speaking out.

Well I'm happy that it means the forums are staying for now, but not so pleased with the embedded malarkey or the liking/dislike Facebook-style stuff, but as long as the forums are still here that makes me happy.

He might be one of those who goes to that other site where they dedicate their time to reading DS and bitterly criticising/moaning about the users (rather than the content) on it - although a lot of those are also current DS users these days too.

Can you visit people in the jail if they send you a VO?

I hope this means Crazy Chris is coming back!

Whats the betting they will be one of the previously banned users.

I also wonder how many of the 16k are the same people!

I think the amnesty is a really really bad idea

Was this one of the forums that like to advertise how many members it had? I think there were hundreds of thousands. 16,000 is a drop in the ocean when you consider that most of the banned pop up under another monicker.

I find images all over the screen an awful idea, although we will all have to put up with it. It's one of the best things about DS, a nice clear forum without flashing images everywhere. Then there's the lazy like/hate approval system.

But still.

I dont know where he posts , I suspect its some Porno sites when in a dark room and Redditt. I dont really care anyhow.

Going by the past on here most of that 16K will be the same person anyway.

I don't mind the like/dislike button idea so much cos sometimes you post just to say I agree so it will save having to right a post .. guess I am one of the lazy ones

Don't mind the pop up idea either to be honest. Will be helpful I think unless you post loads and in loads of threads

Made up rumours. They wouldn't be investing this much work into (finally) migrating the forums to new software if they planned to just ditch it again next year.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Embedded media.

Will that not slow down the forum?

They were banned for a reason; trolling, multiple accounts, etc. Keep them banned. Surely DS isn't that desperate for users.

The forums aren't going by the sounds of it.

Will we have to watch them whether we like it or not or will they just be there and you can choose not to?

I suspect they'll be the static type that you have to click on to start.

I certainly hope we don't get auto play videos, or animated gifs clogging up the forum.

I like the clean design.

We're not in 2005, all other websites have embedded media. It is hosted in Amazon AWS and the embedded media will probably be from links which are hosted elsewhere. I doubt a simple embedded video which wouldn't play until you clicked it would slow down a page of 50 posts. I can easily browse other forums with embedded content from my mobile phone with a 3G connection. If your computer is over 5 years old then maybe the new features won't be as snappy, but then maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Usually pictures show, but a video will need to be clicked before it will play.

It'll basically do what the Digital Spy + Chrome add-on does.

I don't agree with it.

It creates cliques and people who have fallen out with each other will automatically dislike a good post whether they agree with it or not.

Plus someone could post a load of utter shite and it will be liked by all their chums.

Yes some people are that childish - I have seen it before.

Too few in my opinion. I could easily find another 20 people I would ban without having to think for long.

16k. That's a fair few. Although before I joined here, I used to frequent a few other forums and this place had a reputation for being ban happy.
