I always liked Gab Marcotti, don't know if anyone still uses him. On the other side, Sky have an occasional habit of using print journalists who aren't much better than Robbie Savage, with the main difference being they definitely know how to write.

In the last few years, the over exposure of some of our written journos has removed the aura that they used to have, for me at least, of great insight and sagacity (??!)....Some of the tweets by the likes of Paul Haywards and Henry winter are student journoesque in terms of their insight..
Marcotti is excellent... Don't hear him much now, but I don't listen to talksport |

He's alright, but I remember going off him for some reason that completely escapes me.
James Richardson is all-time king of the hill, although a presenter by trade he's got a keen sense of the game. While veering slightly off-course I'm also a big 'Chappers' fan, he's one of those presenters that comes across as a complete natural even when flirting with the beefcakes on the NFL roundup. |

Vickery is as good as they come, Marcotti could have got a bit too big for his boots in recent times.
Richardson sipping his espresso at a cafe outside the San Siro was the next des Lytham, when it comes to smooth... He does a weekly football podcast. Can't remember for who |

Can't remember for who When I went to Verona I did a tribute photo of me sat with an ice cream outside Piazza Bra with a copy of Gazzetta and he liked it. Pretty much all my ambitions fulfilled that day |

Marcotti still contributes on ESPNFC (the tv show, not just the website). the problem is, there never seems to be a fixed time for it. the audio of the show is released as a daily podcast too.
James Richardson really is the greatest though. |

Written journalists are poorly educated hacks these days, they have no insight, no skill, and most are thoroughly dislikable. Having them on tv and radio broadcasts did expose them for what they really are.
Student journalism sums it up perfectly. |

I find it interesting that Neville's managerial career, however brief is thrown at him yet Carra who hasn't managed at all yet isn't questioned and referred to as a fan.
This is just a manager defending his players from the media, who have been critical of one his players. It's been pointed out else where I'm sure how similar in some ways this is of De Gea's first season in English football, the media also had a go at Schmeichel when he first came to United. The English game is still has more crosses and physical than mainland Europe and it takes time to adjust. If Karius turns the corner, and is then praised by Neville for his improvement will Karius and Klopp say anything?? I doubt it, so as the saying goes, today's newspaper, tomorrows fish and chip paper. Quote:

Yes, it is true, I did my university degree and then got an offer from Sky Sports, but I had to turn them down, as other priorities took over at the time.

Also, what was the actual offer? To be a journalist with them? |

I believe there was a discussion about Jurgen Klopp and the Neville brothers going on here and I thought I'd contribute, but it seems that everybody has got bored with talking about football and it's morphed into a careers resume..?
When my daughter is in full time school, I intend to go back to uni to take my Phd. I just thought you'd all like to know. To summarise the topic though: Klopp: Is right to defend his player. G Neville: Is entitled to an opinion even if he was a rotten manager. Carragher: Hasn't even tried to be a manager, because he's either chicken or (more likely) possesses a sound self-awareness of his abilities and is savvy enough to not overreach himself. Take your pick. He's entitled to an opinion too though. Which is what Sky pay him for. Karius: Just do your job and answer the critics with your performances. If you can. Overall: The whole nonsense is yet another trivial, petty, storm in a teacup which, frankly, is a matter of monumental unimportance to anything. |

Auclair is okay, a bit too try hard for me. But Vickery is excellent. Slightly off-topic, I really miss Jimmy Armfield as a co-commentator. He's battling cancer again unfortunately, so I don't think he'll be back.
