What happened to the old shows like The Comedy Annual, Ad of the Year or a one-off festive drama.

Now ITV's xmas evening schedules are:
Xmas Eve:
6:30 Blankety Blank
7:30 Coronation Street
8:00 Birds of a feather
9:00 Grantchester
10:30 Through the Keyhole

Xmas Day
5:15 You've been framed
5:45 Emmerdale - too early in my opinion
6:45 Paul O'Grady: For the love of dogs
7:45 ITV News
8:00 Coronation Street
9:00 Maigret

Boxing Day
7pm Emmerdale
7:30 Coronation Street
8:00 You've been framed
8:30 Coronation Street
9:00 FILM: Captain Phillips

Ok, so Xmas Eve, Xmas Day and Boxing Day primetime show programmes with a festive theme but after that, its give up now

TUES 27th:
7pm Emmerdale
7:30 - 10:30 Harry Potter & the Goblet of fire

WED 28th
7pm Emmerdale
7:30 - 10:10 Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix

THURS 29th:
5:50 The Amazing Spiderman 2
8:30 Emmerdale
9:00 - 12:20 Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince (with 20min break for news)

FRI 30th:
7pm Emmerdale
7:30 Coronation Street
8:00 - 10:40 Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Films aside I think those schedules have a very 80's feel to them for some reason. I mean Blankety Blank, Birds of a Feather, You've Been Framed? For Maigret you could substitute Poirot or something like that.

Its because all those programmes you've mentioned, Ad of the Year (is on Ch5, so why do another one) one-off dramas flopped. Did you watch last years Ghost Hunter and Peter & Wendy, because both were under 2m. If they'd rated well, we might have had some more. But as no-ne bothered, what the point in wasting money on programmes no-one watches.

I cant believe you are brushing aside drama like Grantchester and Maigret for a clip show Ad of the Year.

The Harry Potter films are a but much, but they'll rate better than clip shows and one-off drama in that slot.

"Ad Of The Year" is the only time I actually watch any ads all year

I think ITV have 'given up' because they know the BBC will trounce them on the day.

ITV (and other Commercial channels) tends to do most of its Christmas specials before Christmas, and the time between Christmas and New Year is pretty much a dead week.

For example Jonathan Ross Xmas special was on Saturday just gone.

Oh good. It's not just me. I've been puzzling for days at the apparent disjuncture between the numerous calls for Christmas like it used to be and the fact of a schedule that, on ITV at least, is exactly like it used to be.

Lets not forget ITV are showing The Lion King after the Queen on Christmas Day. They're showing a few other classic Disney films over the festive period, so nice to see them going to some effort.

I don't watch the independent channels, and I certainly wouldn't watch a movie on ITV with all those advert cuts when you can see it in its entirety on other channels.

Last year they had The Sound Of Music Live which was a bit different and seemed to go down well. They also had Text Santa which was starting to become an annual show on the Friday before Christmas. Now that has been axed. Surprised Jonathan Ross Christmas Show was on Saturday. Surely that should have aired on Christmas Eve especially as it falls on a Saturday.

Agreed. At least they could have had some film premieres, a good action movie or thriller.

ITV's Christmas Eve line-up is a strong one I'd say and probably the best of their festive period.

Sound of Music Live was cracking. Really surprised it didn't start a "live musical" tradition at Christmas.

ITV looks so boring this year.

Both Lion King and 101 Dalmatians are repeats, previously shown on Channel 4 and BBC1.

Looks like dire fare to me apart from the Harry Potter films for their fans.

Captain Phillips on Boxing Day.
Terrific film starring Tom Hanks.

Still got that on my Tivo. (And "Grease Live" too.) May watch them again this year.

This. It has rather weakened Christmas Day and Boxing Day somewhat. But Christmas Eve is a good solid schedule.

So? If its a good film, who cares.

You must control this subtle way to trying to lure people from ITV over to BBC1.

Ch5 re showing Greatest Ever Christmas Ads, so not quite the same, but its an ad show.

Given this forum is full of moaning about the number of ads on commercial channels, Ad of the Year is the last thing I'd have thought would be something people are missing.

The last time it was on ITV it was under 2m. Not worth bringing it back.
