So DS is upgrading and adding a lot of new features, anyone else excited about this, this seems like a better thing with a lot more possibilities.

What do members think of the this particular nugget, the potential return of banned members?

Ban Amnesty, In 16 years, we have amassed over 16,000 banned accounts. Starting now, we are going to be reviewing anyone who chooses to appeal their ban again. Those wishing to appeal should email forum@digitalspy.co.uk with the title 'Ban Amnesty'. Be sure to include your forum username when messaging!

If you look at the two threads in GD, the mods have said that the people can ask to come back doesn't mean they will be allowed it will depend on what they were banned for

The words 'DigitalSpy' and 'upgrade' never work well together.

Yeah I don't venture into GD if I can help it, I just hope the phantom multiple account holder doesn't make a come back although they probably never left.

The Like/Dislike is gonna cause some ructions.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But I hope the upgrade is successful.

Not sure how I feel about the dislike button but it may become an issue in future.

Oh god. Another overhaul.
The main site is still unusable and spouts the most awful garbage.

Perhaps focus on that for the time being?

It is broke - the search is junk for example.

Up/down voting is a great feature for forums when you want to say "I like this post" but not reply to it.

Very happy with DS for doing this.

The idea of minimising and burying post doesn't seem a good idea, seems a bit to reddit if thats how it will go.

It works very well as a system. I am for it!

Glad to see they are updating, the rumour of closure has now been settled, they wouldn't update if they were closing.

But I am not a fan of like/dislike buttons. How many people will not bother to post and continue a conversation, but instead press a button? It may not do much damage in number of posts, but it will cause some people not to bother replying to a thread, ending conversations or not even starting any.

I can see threads that would usually have many posts in them reduced to just a few with many likes/dislikes just because that option is there.

And if liked posts are given more attention, it will just be a popularity contest, not based on the content of the post, but the poster. If a disliked post is unfairly hidden away, that wont encourage people to continue posting more.

If you agree of disagree with someone, say something.

I don't like the idea of posts being hidden because someone else disagreed with another person's opinion, why should that be hidden? What happens if I agree with the person's opinion or don't care either way, why hide it?

I don't want to see Youtube videos and whatever else in the forum, even if they are shrunk and need me to click on to play them, I really like the fact that there are no images on these forums. Plus, now and again up pops some idiot and spams the forums with insults and are going to take advantage of that and post videos of who knows what.

I hope this isn't the beginning of avatars and banner signatures.

It's going to start a lot of "Press Like if you like a certain charcter and press dislike if you dont" or "Should blah blah blah be killed press Like to be killed and Dislike to not be killed" it's going to start what happens on twitter with Retweet and Like.

I really hate the idea of like/dislike buttons. It's going to put me off of posting.

Agree with the amnesty. I think they're too heavy handed sometimes. Besides do we really need protecting to that degree.

Majority of the banned users are already back anyway.

I hope I don't end up leaving the forums because Digital Spy insists we must 'keep up with the times' by introducing like/dislike buttons and using new emojis and gifs. It's the only place I use for soap news. Maybe I'm being old fashioned but I'm happy with the current layout/style.

I'm the same. A few things annoy me, primarily the lack of search function and the ads which often crash my browser, but overall it's a lot simpler to post on here than many forums. Once people start posting gifs and embedding media and liking or disliking your posts it all just becomes a bit of an effort. I particularly dislike the idea of like/dislike. There are already claims of a clique on the soap forum and this will make it ten times worse with newbies feeling discouraged if their posts get dislikes or not enough likes.
