.... for about three minutes in all. Apologies if there is already a thread about this but couldn't see one. Anybody see this? Very embarrassing! Prince Philip doesn't like to talk about himself. So Phillip Schofield has the bright idea that they would talk about himself instead. I'm doing a wing walk just for you. Aye right. Every time he went to see him it was "oh no, him again". That bit was a joy to watch - Prince Philip had his number alright.

Some bright spark in an office obviously thought he would be ideal - oh I know get him - he's got the same name - won't that be fun.

Joanna Lumley claims to know him for goodness sake - that might have been interesting.

Ant and Dec were obviously busy. If I heard Philip schofield was coming I'd drink myself silly to try and block out the pain.

Shoulda sent Holly. She would've brought him out of himself.

I suspect that she might have got on better with Prince Philip.

Schofield was so far up Phil The Greeks ass that he didnt know if he was going or coming, both Phils slimed themselves into one massive ball of saliva , these type of ass licking Royalist types serve no purpose whatsoever.

I wish I had a anti-emetic whilst watching that.

Mr Schofield took sycophancy to hitherto unknown heights!

oscar1, I'm glad you enjoyed it - I'm sure a lot did. It just wasn't what I was expecting at all. It had the air of something that had been agreed to - ie Phillip sitting down for a chat with the Duke, which I would have found interesting, but when he met Schofield and the team he was having none of it, so they had to desperately think of ways to fill an hour's programming they had already committed to. Maybe not the case at all, but that's how it came across to me.

By definition these sort of programmes with Royals are sycophantic because the Palace won't have it any other way. But I thought Alan Titchmarsh had cornered the market in brown-nosing but he has a rival in Schofield.

At least Joanna is bright and clever and would research her subject first. Prince Philip has a sharp, scientific mind, with a huge interest in technology. If pitched the right way, there was a great opportunity to hear his views on things. It's well known though that he's uncomfortable with overly familiar, press and media intrusion, so if ITV were hoping for insightful, feel good TV, then having a saccharin interviewer like Phil fawning all over him, was the very last way to encourage him to open up and only made the Prince even more prickly!

The Duke of Edinburgh appeared to be taking part, under duress. There was not enough relevant footage, to warrant the title of the programme.
What was the boxed brooch HRH gave PS? A reward for his wing walk,in which The Duke looked completely uninterested!
Very disappointing.

But Prince Philip has not given an 'interview' for many years sp ways have to be found around that. I think Joanna Lumley might have been able to get on with him better and sure he likes a pretty face so could even have been better with Holly Thingy rather than Schofield. Alternatively he might have reacted better to a confrontational talk with someone like Paxman (provided he did not walk out on it).

The only good thing that came out of it for me was to see how down to earth (compared with his slob of an older brother Andrew) Edward and Sophie (especially) are.

It's cringeworthy, watching him fawning over prince Phillip
Pathetic too, feeling that PS had to do something to impress him
Why try so hard? HRH isn't impressed by it
I remember when Fiona Bruce interviewed him
He was his usual curmudgeonly self, sexist too, putting her down
It was embarrassing to watch, but at least she didn't creep.

Sophie is stunning, even on a wet summer's day when she was crab fishing off the rocks in the pouring rain with the 2 children ---- and all 3 enjoying every minute .

I recall the interview Fiona Bruce did with him for the programme The Duke at 90, he just came across and just plain rude.

If he doesn't like giving interviews then fine just don't ask him and let him carry on sulking because he didn't get to play with his ships!!

If he doesn't want to give interviews, it would be far wiser to make a whole programme of interviews about him with the family and friends who are (like Sophie who came across as wise and sensible and down to earth), mixed with any rare footage of interviews he has done in the past. I've seen this in part on other royal programmes and it is better than this embarrassing attempt to do something the Duke clearly didn't want to be involved with. It just made Schofield look like a complete idiot.

Sophie worked in PR so she knows how to handle the media.

Didn't the BBC do one like that for the Queen's birthday? Prince Philip probably only agreed to take part to raise money and publicity for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Sounds like an accurate depiction then.
