Why is such definition needed, why do Jewish people need to be treated differently?

I've found this highlighting of an apparent massive surge in anti-semitism over the last year or so a bit strange.I'm not saying it doesn't exist and not being Jewish it's fair to say I wouldn't know the extremes of it.
But in the same time it's been so exposed by poilticians, affected groups and the media I cant honestly say I've seen any first hand evidence of it,while at the same time I've seen a fair bit of racism against Asians ,Blacks ,Poles and British whites.
Possibly there isn't a large Jewish community in my town(i honestly don't know),just wondering have others personally seen evidence of this huge rise in anti-semitism.

I wonder this too. I always get the feeling that it is some kind of collective worldwide guilt destined to be permanently around because of what happened to them during the holocaust.

it would help this idiot, currently on trial locally.

A self-declared ‘national socialist’ accused of calling for other races to be eliminated has said his comments were only meant as “lighthearted banter”.

there`s a few [or one with several names] who write anti-semitic comments under every story involving the city mp, daniel zeichner, who is jewish.

the paper only remove them if you cc other people into the email asking if anti-semitism has become acceptable, so they could do with a bit of guidance too.

this is a new thing, locally at least, and it is rising, along with other racial and religious abuse.

I am not sure that an elaborate definition will help with the problem

It will 'help' those who are anti-semitic but carefully tread in between the loopholes and grey areas.

Semitic refers to the Semitic languages i.e. Hebrew, Aramaic etc.

Arabic is a Semitic language so Arabs are also Semites but Arabs can be anti semetic if they discriminate against Jews but if Jews discriminate against Arabs it's nit anti semetism.

Are Jews who don't speak Hebrew semites?

I'm just curious as to how and why we use these words, so just intersted in the semantics- all racial, ethnic discrimination is not on.

What a silly comment. It's also comments like that that are part of the problem. . You'd have to be blind deaf and dumb not to see how rampant antisemitism has become lately in europe.
