We smoked at work right up till 1993, when our office burned down and we were temporarily based in a huge open-plan building.

Given that around 75% of the staff smoked, and one colleague routinely set fire to his waste paper basket (accidentally - reckless emptying of ashtray when fags were not properly out!), we were all a bit surprised to find out that the cause of the fire was electrical.

If you see any of the old Royal TV programmes you will probably see the surgeon operating whilst smoking is pipe. Sounds extraordinary today but you would often visit your GP in those days and he would be puffing away on a cigarette
Women being "touched up" was very common in the 60s/70s, they enjoyed and expected it. The only ones who complained were those who were never likely to get a second look

One of the first things I can remember my mum teaching me when I was about 14 was how to change a plug!... she felt it was something I really needed to know.... something we never give a thought to nowadays as everything comes with a plug on it.....

Not that many years ago there was a bunch of Polish builders doing some work and they were using the lights as the plug sockets hadn't been connected up, boss came in and kicked em off the site as if the H&S guy had turned up it would of been even worse.

Its why lighting circuits are only 5/6A to stop people using them for heaters etc.

I worked with plenty of women all my life, and believe me - they loved the attention from men. And filthy minds, far worse than a collection of lads

It was common back then, I remember it happening in offices, but that doesn't mean that in most cases they enjoyed it! Most just thought there was nothing they could do about it. Admittedly, a few enjoyed it as a bit of fun and some girls even went on to date or marry their touchers-up... but that's because they fancied them beforehand, not because they were touched up. Most didn't like it at all, but were stuck with it. Same with smokers in the office, it was a different world back then.

Yep, I watched a video on YouTube about St Anne's in Nottingham in 1969, council slums with no bathroom, no running hot water, no indoor toilet and damp like you've never seen in your life! Laundry done at the local wash house for 1 shilling, the launderette cost 3 shillings, women unpicking lace for 4 hours to earn 45 pence, husband worked 50 hours a week making kitchen units for £14 a week, the good old days? You can keep them!

I started work in 1956 as a shop boy at our local Co-op, we worked a 40 hour week, and my take home pay was £1.50 a week, I left and started as a Telegram Boy at the GPO, same hours take home pay about £2.10 per week

I think what must have happened is that the companies I worked for took the decision to impose smoking bans prior to 2007.

I started work in 1982. Loads smoked-and drank a lot-at work. We'd had an outside toilet until 1980 at home and a tin bath. I know thats getting on for 40 years ago now, but there you are- there were still people living like us.
My mate jason, at the age of 16, was stripped at work ( GEC north wembley) by the women and many wanted sex with him too. They took him off and had it. He stayed there for 4 year apprenticeship.

It was really a different World. It all changed in the late 80s ; health&safety; drinking at work, then smoking banned in the late 90s etc

It was a long time ago now. Its 2017 in a few weeks; even 1990 is getting on for 30 years ago, now

a good measure is how you would feel about the office creep patting your wife/partner/daughter/sister/mother`s arse while she`s going about her business.
