Haha. So glad he didn't make number 1.
You're glad that a charity single didn't make the number one?

If you don't like the song, that's fair enough. But why is it a good thing that it didn't do better?

I think he's done really well tbf. No 1 in sales terms and over 1m streams if I'm not mistaken? The fact that Louis couldn't even get number one shows how strange the charts are these days.
Yes, he was number one for the week on paid-for sales. By comparison, last year, Louisa was #2 for the week on paid-for sales. At 10k streaming sales, yes, that's over 1 million streams. Considering it's a charity single I thought it might have picked up a few more downloads, but I personally think it could have done with a physical release. I think you could have added another 10-15k sales if they did have one.

They are reducing the ratio of streaming sales from 100:1 to 150:1 from next year, apparently.

He made no mention of getting to Number 3 on Twitter, not even to thank fans for buying the record.

The X Factor winners single did miles better than last year, get over it! Why the hate?

I really don't think so but who knows. The streaming era was always going to kill XF's #1 chances.

The 1d fandom went nuts buying and streaming Louis T's song, which beat Matt into 3rd place and entered the charts at no 2. Their efforts included buying the song four times from four different outlets (amazon uk, amazon us, google and i-tunes) and gifting it to thousands of people who couldn`t afford to buy it. They were also streaming it 24/7 on at least two devices each. It's an okay song but nothing special. I much prefer the new Zayn/Taylor collab but that entered the charts at 16 so the Zayn stans missed a trick.

Who on earth would want to by the same naff single four times? They must have more money than sense.

I wasn't happy when Matt won the X Factor and i was the first to state that his Christmas single wouldn't do well.

However i have to hold my hands up and admit i was wrong. number 3 in the charts is brilliant.

Actually Louisa sold more copies during her first week in charts:

Regardless of its chart position, as you don't need that many sales anymore to get there, it probably isn't quite living up to expectations in terms of sales.

Just keep being angry. Keep hating. Keep posting. It matters. People think you matter. You matter and you're angry, let it out girl. Let it out.

I don't like the song at all. It's not for me and Matt is just not up my street in any sense but he seems like a nice guy and it's a charity single, so what is wrong with people? People are so angry about Matt. If they get this angry about a guy on TV, they must be an absolute freak in real life.

I can think of better ways to give to charity than buying a shitty Christmas song, however the blokes done well with what talent he has so good luck to him.

How do you know that for sure?

Funnily enough, people were saying the same about Lauren Murray last year, that if she'd won she'd easily have been number 1 - on the basis that she was the only one that made the top 10 iTunes chart with one of her performances. She's still not released anything.

If Saara does easily manage a #1 single with her first release, then maybe you'll be right. But if she released the same song that Matt did, I struggle to believe she'd have done any better. Saara was popular with the voters, but I can't help but think they probably won't buy her records in huge numbers.

He made no mention of getting to Number 3 on Twitter, not even to thank fans for buying the record.
It has barely been 24 hours since the single charted. Just because he hasn't mentioned it doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate it.

Who on earth would want to by the same naff single four times? They must have more money than sense.
Sorry, but I think that's a very arrogant thing to say. Just because you don't like the song (which isn't a problem), that doesn't mean people who do like it don't have 'sense'. Music is subjective and your tastes aren't any greater than anyone else's.

I don't like the song at all. It's not for me and Matt is just not up my street in any sense but he seems like a nice guy and it's a charity single, so what is wrong with people? People are so angry about Matt. If they get this angry about a guy on TV, they must be an absolute freak in real life.
BIB: I hope that's not directed at me.

If you don't like the song, that's fair enough. I haven't got a problem with that. My problem is with people seemingly elated that it didn't get to #1, as though it would have been a bad thing if it did. It's a charity single - surely the more it sells the better? I think realistically it wouldn't have made it to #1 last week but that's not to say it has flopped. A #3 debut is really good these days.

I can see it selling even more this week with it being the run-up to Christmas Day.

It's not my cup of tea but I'm unlikely to ever hear it again anyway and, if it raises a lot of cash for a great cause, who cares how crap it is?

It's all about what Matt does next that will make or break him. The winners single is irrelevant

Was the opposite. I'm on the lad's side. Even if it wasn't a Christmas single, if you spend any time enjoying someone not doing well you're probably a horrible person.

Where do we think Matt will be in the Christmas chart on Friday ?
I'm guessing number 5.

I think what has definitely helped Matt's chart position with this song is the fact that Ed Sheeran wrote it. That has definitely played a massive part because we trust Ed's writing and he is so admired by the nation. So Ed's fans plus Matt's fans from the show got him to 3. However had Matt been seen as the next big U.K. star, this would've gone to no 1.

I don't think everyone who heard and bought the song would have known Ed Sheeran wrote the song. I think Ed being behind the song, and thus the song having a bit of depth to it (IMO anyway), and people liking the song is the main reason. Would it have had a small impact? I don't think knowing Ed Sheeran wrote it would have been the sole reason.

It is. Especially since Dermot mentioned it before Matt sang and it was all over the press.

Matt's song is currently climbing at postion 126 on Finnish daily top 200 on Spotify (~9000 streams)...

Saara has released Christmas album (and couple others) including songs in english and finnish and she doesn't have any songs on daily top 200. 1,3 million followed those X-Factor finals in Finland and she doesn't get 5000 daily streams... we are strange country. And just to be mentioned that Saara's ex' (Teemu Roivainen) Christmas album is climbing at position 30 in Finnish album chart.
