Even if you don't have a first class ticket certain people should be accepted anyway, middle class, correct attire, lovely smell, a whiff of charisma, etc..

Funny that...as a few years ago, Chris Eubank was fined and removed from first class on the same line.
He felt entitled to sit there with a cheap ticket too. Carrying a cane & wearing a monacle, along with his suit didn't seem to make any difference. Neither did being Chris Eubank

How dare they, with a monocle he should have been driving the train.

All seemed to be about priority seats and according to the article, priority seats in first can only be used if that class has been declassified. It appears it hadn't so legally she wasn't entitled to sit there.

I agree with 'respecting elders' but 'betters' is where the older woman passenger went wrong. Apart from using that word she was correct.

You are right, but I also think she thought it was her priority to sit where she wanted just because she had a child. Even though she hadn't paid for that seat in that particular carriage.

If the whole row did erupt when she said "I'm carrying a baby you have to respect me"... why?

ETA: Oops, sorry! I've responded to a Daily Fail clickbait post.”

Precisely + how did the old woman know the young woman hadn't got a first class ticket? I would never ever ever make such a casual presumption, as you can easily end up with egg all over your face.

Best thing - just make the space for her and wait for the ticket inspector to come round. As a passenger, it isn't your job to police the accommodation.

And unless the old bat had bought 2 first class tickets she had no right to use an extra first class seat for her luggage did she?”

It takes a very mean spirited person to put luggage on a seat when someone else needs it.

Having a baby with you dosent mean you can buy a standard ticket and sit in first class, where ticket holders have paid alot more.

The priority seats in first class, are for first class ticket holders only. She could have won her argument if she had demanded a priority seat in standard class, which is the carriage she had bought a ticket to sit in.

The woman could have received a fine for sitting in first class with a standard ticket.

If the first class carriage had been declassified, which it wasn't, the first class ticket holders could have received a refund for their journey.

As she had an standard ticket, why didn't she sit in a standard carriage, rather than thinking that she was entitled to sit in first class without paying to do so, just because she had a child.

I don't agree with the old woman,s respect your olders & betters though! Betters?”

On the video and from the text, she was entitled to be there.

Normally I'd agree but on this occasion, the seats had been declassified, and the older lady was rude to the woman with the baby. I mean "betters"? Who says that? It shows a snobbishness and annoying sense of self importance. Bitch

If so then it obviously hadn't been very clearly publicised as the carriage appeared quite empty whilst no doubt 2nd class was rammed. It's time rail travel became classless anyway. That's where the self importance and snobbishness is rooted.

Respect your elders and betters?

Erm, not if they're overtly and openly racist Brexit voters.

On commuter trains there should not be any first class. Trains are too rammed.

She said she didn't have a first class ticket.

End of story says: Southern rail said passengers in first class priority seats must hold a first class ticket.

There are priority seats in standard class too.

When she was asked to move to standard class by ticket inspector, the passenger who said that was told it was incorrect, that the carriage hadn't been declassified. Even when people are standing in standard carriages, they aren't entitled to sit in First Class seats. The woman then pointed out the seat was a priority seat. But her cheaper, standard ticket didn't entitle her to sit in first class.

IF the carriage had been declassified, all passengers holding first class tickets, would have been entitled to a refund.

Standard ticket for next week: 34.50
First Class 51.70

Why are they allowed to sell tickets if there are not enough seats ? I'd assume if I bought any ticket I was entitled to sit somewhere on the train.

It matters little how good Eubank was as a boxer, he marked himself forever as a copper bottomed idiot when he began driving around the West End of London in that Peterbilt U.S. tractor unit. As a self publicist though, he had no equal.

Not just mean spirited, but completely, and absolutely ignorant and selfish, on a par with the morons who put their feet on the seats on public transport.
As for 'betters', few things light my blue touch paper more than this.
There is NO ONE in the world 'better' than me.
There are gazillions equal to me, billions more intelligent than me, millions richer than me, but no one is 'better' than me in the context used by the older lady on that train.

Yes, under normal circumstances. Because of a strike first class was declassified which was announced at the last station. Under those circumstances standard seat passengers can use first class including priority seats.
Video around 1.10.

I think Harry Hill should be put in charge of these disputes.
