Old HD box is playing up, yep just in time for xmas
logged into my sky account and it says i can keep same package/price as i am on now, but get a new 2tb skyq box instead of old sky HD box.

only catch is they want £200 to install the new sky q box either 1TB or 2TB not bothered about mulit room/ extra boxes.

As it says it remains the property of sky throughout the contract, thats reads as rental to me, any future problems will result in a free engineer visit and free replacement of any equipment?

quite happy to do a self install, thats not a problem.

but just wondering whats the options, chances of haggling for cheaper install.

got sky basic/movies/sports package at moment and want to keep them.

You won't have an option for self install, if you go for multiscreen then it will cost you £60 rather than £200 for the 2TB.(but your package will cost £12 extra.)
Whatever you do the likelyhood of an install before Xmas is probably very slim.
Installation: Engineer set-up required. Standard installation: New Sky TV customers: Sky Q 1TB box: £15 with or without a Sky Q Multiscreen subscription; Sky Q 2TB box with a Sky Q Multiscreen subscription: £60; Sky Q 2TB box without a Sky Q Multiscreen subscription: £199. Existing customers taking a Sky Q Multiscreen subscription: Sky Q 1TB box: up to £49; Sky Q 2TB box: up to £99. Prices discounted to £15 for Sky Q 1TB box or £60 for Sky Q 2TB for existing customers without a current Sky Multiscreen subscription.

Existing Sky customers wishing to upgrade to Sky Q 1TB box or Sky Q 2TB box without taking a Sky Q Multiscreen subscription: £199 standard set-up, please call 0800 151 2747 for further information and to upgrade.

Yep. Probably looking at mid Jan to Feb depending on where you live in the country

When do Sky call it quits for installers before Christmas and New Year?

^ This.

I bought a 1TB box off that same site for £50 when I rejoined Sky last year (after leaving for VM), as I'd given my old box to my dad.

TBH, if anything goes wrong with this one, I'd probably do the same again (but look for a 2TB) as I'm still unsure about upgrading to SkyQ yet.

One way to save yourself a lot of money is get a Humax FreeSat box and you will wonder why you have been paying SKY all the money you have done.

.
Am in exactly the same position. I picked up a 2TB box off eBay. Prices seem to be going down. I guess Q introduction means the market is awash with boxes.

I'm still interested in Q for the future 4k; but it would appear you can only get this with an extra £12 multi room sub (un-needed). I'll wait for Sky to come up with a compelling offer.
