Why do we tolerate sexism from black people who sing for a living?

"Of course - out the R' word comes again."
Claiming that most young black singers are "vile sexist" is racist nonsense, no two ways about it. I note you didn't take issue with that post, so perhaps that's the evidence you ask for on the second point.

"No"
Yes. You are making things up. Here are your words: "Most of those who run the business are f*****g violent criminal scum. Shooting each other at the drop of hat." That's not accurate.

I'll never understand the "it's just an act" argument for rappers.

Like when Eminem raps about assaulting girls and killing his ex wife. I guess it's ok as long as you say "oh I'm just pretending to be someone else when I talk about how much I hate my ex". It makes no sense.

Btw, someone quoted a rapper to me on IMDB the other day. A bunch of guys were doing the typical "women are whores and golddiggers" thing that I see a lot online these days. One of them said to me "to quote the great rapper... (can't remember who) bitches are nothing but hoes and tricks".

Op - why is known sexist Trump now President of the United States? Probably because sexism is a joke to many and something daft "feminazis" whine about.

Robin Thicke took some shit for his art, not least of all on these forums.

It is curious....I wonder how many that raged about him never rage about rap?

You've never been to Eastern Europe or the Welsh Valleys have you?

I was referring only to Gangsta rap and yes I think it's mostly appalling.

Not 'all young black singers' as you have just stated.

That is me done in this thread.

Whilst no doubt 'gangsta rap' is garbage and its language is basically hate speech which means it should be banned... I don't know if white people can complain about sexism in black culture when the most recently elected president was on trial for rape at the time of his campaign and admits to grabbing women by the pussy without consent...

and basically this is why such rants are allowed in music because anyone who questions it are scared to be accused of this crap

I looked up the lyrics to 212 by Azealia Banks once.

I'm not sure what language it was in, but I still felt dirty and mildly offended afterwards.

Read. The only 'crap' is your inattention to the topic.

Two assertions:
1. "most young black singers are "vile sexist" (sic) Racist nonsense from someone objecting to sexism.

2. "Most of those who run the business are f*****g violent criminal scum. Shooting each other at the drop of hat." Which is about as realistic as the first statement.

You have a good working knowledge of gangsta rap or are you another who thinks Eminem might be a gangsta rapper...

To be honest I enjoy a fair few of rap songs and I'm female myself despite the lyrics being very questionable. I like Kanye and I really liked alot of Eminems stuff.

The question is whether banning these lyrics is an affront to freedom of speech or not.

It definitely seemed that way with Eminem, that's why I quite liked him. It seemed to be about saying the things he wasn't supposed to say or even in some cases, saying the things everyone was thinking but daren't say- breaking those social conventions and taboos down.

Have to say, that was the apex of free speech for me, around the second Eminem album (that's how I measure it ). Now it's all gone prudish with the millennials and their boring music. Just when I thought we were finally going balls to the wall on the free speech front too, so disappointed.

Hopefully the next generation will be so bored with their millennial parents, they'll revert back and we'll get some good old fashioned anarchy back

And who, double-ironically, weaves probably the most extreme, violent, and misogynistic lyrics into his songs, even if they are delivered with his typically dark and surreal sense of humour.

The amount of times I have gone "OMG did he just...?" to Eminem.

If you're so easily offended OP, please stay away from death metal, some of the lyrics in that genre make gangsta rap look like something from Cbeebies.

No one seemed shocked and I don't think anyone complained. I should add that Suggs didn't join in with the homophobia. I've seen the same thing in a notorious reggae club in London which was shut down by the police and council.”

To this day, a lot of people don't realise that 'batty boy' is a slur meaning a gay man or that 'boom bye bye' means shooting said gay man dead.

Everyone knows what a bitch or a ho means though.

All the rap songs also glorify materialism (most of the songs namecheck types of cars or jewellery) and drugs, including Black Beatles.

I don't like the misogyny and drug references, but it's certainly not confined to black rappers - Eazy-G is a young white rapper who has top ten hits and his lyrics contain the same misogynist slurs, drug glorification etc.

It being obviously an act is pretty straight forward, his ex wife is still very much alive.

That would be Dr Dre. The last time i checked he was selling headphones to Apple for 3.4 billion dollars.

P.s. In fairness to Dre a study seems to have backed him up and who am i to argue with studies?

Part of the charm of music is rebellion and like all art its ability to make us question our views and values.

Yet the genre seems to almost escape criticism.

I wonder why?”

Lmao gangster rap as a concept and a sub-genre died about 16 years ago. As a genre it isn’t relevant in today’s hip hop scene. Most sub genres last 10 years, not much longer than that.

Right I’m going to put on some Panda by Desiigner which is about as ‘gangster’ as my cup of tea! Great beat though!
