I do enjoy the showdances. Sometimes they are a triumph, and then you have Brendan and Lisa's "bacofoil" disaster and Erin and Colin's puppet dance - they would have won if it wasn't for that imo, because Colin was wonderful. They can make or break the result. I like getting a complete surprise.

When Darren Gough beat Colin the voting was open all week and he apparently had such a big lead that nothing that happened in that final made any difference to the result. I think by the final most people are pretty fixed on who they're going to vote for and the show dances make little difference. Some people still say Tom's showdance won it for him even though we were told he won the vote in the semi final and the two other finalists had both been in two dance offs from near the top of the board (Lisa 3). I think the most showdances can do is pick up a few floating voters to get you to third place in the final instead of out first, like Denise or Natalie.

Open all week? Oh, that's a bit unfair. I don't remember that but then again I only ever vote on the night. I have my favourites of course but I do actually like to see the dances before finally making up my mind.

I think that one lasted until series six actually - it's because the votes money used to go to charity but yeah it was unfair so even the 'good old days' had it's quirks.

I think it helped win it for Tom over Rachel because it did in my case - I voted for both Rachel and Tom in the first round of the final because I wanted anyone but Lisa to win it and didn't mind which of the other two did it and then I saw Tom's showdance and decided I did care after all and voted for him. That said Jay's last year proved that it doesn't have the power to deny someone the win if the public on the whole is already behind them and that Jailona knew that. It was probably the worst of the night and the majority of people didn't care and voted for them anyway.

The couples have selected great choices as their faves so we are in for a REAL treat!. Can't wait.
