I noticed on Danny's twitter feed that he thanked Jonathan Platero (Oksana's husband) for choreographing his and Oti's charleston. Then I noticed on Jonathan's feed that he choreographed two dances in the semi final. Does anyone know what the two dances were?

And does anyone know of other dances definitely choreographed by other pros? I wish it was acknowledged more instead of always implying it was the Strictly Pro!

Salsa/Argentine Tango/ Charlestons have outside choreographers.

This week Jon choreographed Danny's Salsa and Ore's AT.

The pro and/or celeb usually says something about it on Twitter, plus I believe the extra choreographers are thanked in the credits? Not seen it myself, but others have mentioned this.

Wouldn't it be Danny's Salsa rather than Claudia's Rhumba? Plus Jonathan hashtagged his Instagram post with Salsa...

The salsa, AT and charleston are not one of the ten dances that the dancers know so outside choreographers do them. In some cases the pros will never have done a particular dance before. There are a few exceptions such as Janette who is an experienced salsa dancer so will do her own.

The group and pro dances seem to have various people - sometimes external but sometimes in house. For example, they got in choreographers to do the contemporary piece at the weekend but Neil's been doing the dance for the eliminated contestants this week.

Seems an important issue - because you are stuck with what you are given , even if its dud. And the content is one person removed from what suits the celebrity. Its not then an equal playing field , with clear responsibility.

Thanks for the replies guys - I'd say it was Danny's salsa anyway as Jonathan is a salsa dancer.

Does anyone know if he does all the salsa's /ATs/ Charlestons?

Or arguably as the same external choreographer does the salsas and ATs for all the couples it totally evens the playing field. They all end up with crappy choreorgraphy.

The pro can decide not to use an outside choreographer (e.g. I know Brendan doesn't always these days), but even when they do, they still have input. The choreography is not exclusively the outside choreographer's. It's a joint effort, because the pro knows the capability of their celeb and the celeb probably chips in about how hard they find certain moves, etc.

It's quite openly known that the Argentine tangos, charlestons and salsas are usually choreographed by other people, as they aren't part of the 10 core ballroom and latin dances. You quite often hear the pros thanking the particular choreographer.

No, Jonathan Platero doesn't do all of them - though he's done a few dances this season. Jenny Thomas does a lot of the charlestons and I think Bill Deamer (spelling?)

Just to add, we often used to see the external choreographers in the training room VTs and a couple have been on ITT.

And Brendan really should. He wouldn't know a salsa if it came as a side order on his hot tamale.

Anton did his own Charleston this year, I think.

But were J Platero's efforts any better? I'm no salsa aficionado but I haven't been impressed this year.

Plus the fact that Jonathan Platero has no qualifications in AT .
