I am new to Youview + and find it a slight pain when you press the channel up that you have to go through many of the channels that I dont bother with, eg all the shopping channels, ITVbe, ITV2etc.

Is there anyway that I can block these channels so when I press channel up/down I can go though channel list quicker

You can hide channels so that they don't appear on the programme guide. If you are browsing through with the channel up / down buttons, it will skip the hidden channels. To do it, call up the guide, go to the first channel you want to skip and press the yellow button (for Edit Channels). You will be prompted to enter your PIN number, then OK to hide that channel. Repeat for any other channels that you want to hide. If you want to hide a load of channels that come up together, you can select them all at once.

All well as hiding channels you never want to watch you can also:

- Use the EPG to Page Up / Page Down blocks of channels at a time;

- Enter the channel number you want directly;

- Use a Logitech / Harmony universal remote which allows you have your favourite channels programmed into it..

That does not work on the new UI.
Youview have stated that they intend to reintroduce the ability to hide any channel but have not announced when.

Currently with the new UI only 'Adult' channels can be hidden.

That seems a bizarre choice. If I remember correctly, hiding channels was available from Day One on the old UI. I hope they restore it quickly.

Hide Channels was not there originally. At least not at the start of the trial period.

Hiding channels was introduced in the October 2012 update. That's 3 or 4 months after the official launch.

I just use a single key on a wireless mini keyboard button since the alternative info key was introduced to the keyboard features earlier this year and so even the current remotes multi button presses is a lot unless using the recorder feature is rare.
What was the original way to access MyView was as that release note also states that the release included a reduced number of button presses to access MyView?

If you can hide the Adult channels, how come you can't hide any of the others? Are they encoded differently?

It is a different set of button presses between the 2 mechanisms because the user requirements are not identical.

Each user is different and to hide individual channels requires a mechanism which allows individually chosen channels to be hidden.

When hiding 'Adult' channels using the other mechanism it is an all or nothing option for all channels identified as 'Adult'.

If you already have channels hidden when upgraded, they will remain hidden. There is a warning on the channels setting page that if you unhide any channels they cannot be hidden again.

As to whether this function will be reintroduced, I have no idea.
