They plan to turn him into the next Olly Murs.

So, Simon signed Honey G, but was willing to give Matt away.

Ooooh controversial. I wonder if the winner's prize is still advertised as a recording contract with Syco, or if that has been changed (thinking false advertising)? I suppose if everyone (including Matt) is happy, it's pretty irrelevant though.

That would be a mistake. We already have an Olly Murs who's still doing well so why the heck would they plan such a thing for the poor guy?

His winner's single is already losing steam after only 2 days and I don't think in the slightest that he's gonna reach even Top 3 with the song. They need to find his own sound asap!

Wow, Cowell's washed his hands of him already. So people were right on here, he did go off Matt big time for some reason. No wonder he didn't seem over enthusiastic about the result. Whereas Matt is a better singer than Olly, Olly is more of an entertainer. Matt joins the long list of male X Factor contestants who signed with RCA - Marcus Collins, Jahmene Douglas, Nicholas McDonald, Luke Friend, Andrea Faustini but they didn't win the show.

Maybe that's why Simon wasn't on Xtra Factor after the final- busy selling him on before the ink dried.

Trying to mould him into the "next Olly Murs" seems like a poor strategy to me. He doesn't have that sort of personality and isn't that sort of act.

Hasn't it always been advertised more as a £1 million recording contract, rather than signed to Syco?

The £1 Million pound bit was dropped quietly some years back! It's now just a recording contract.... 1 album minimum I think!

Yes I noticed the £1 million pound recording contract was quietly dropped. It's obvious that as the show and the level of overall talent along with the ratings have dropped, it's not worth forking out £1 million on a recording contract for an artist they might drop after 1 album.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they didn't spend a million pounds on Sam Bailey.

This doesn't give me good vibes. Alexandra released her second album under them and it did badly compared to the first one.

Plus he's nothing like Olly Murs so I don't get that strategy. I also think Olly is with Epic, not RCA, so not sure about the label mates point in the article.

This was the 2011 Sun article that laid out the advances for each album, when they quietly dropped the "£1 million" bit.

He didn't sign Matt Cardle either (he went to Columba rather than RCA tho)

I wonder if he wants to sign someone else. That year he signed both 1D and Cher, and Rebecca Ferguson went to RCA.

How do you know that?

According to this, as of right now he's top of the itunes chart at least

There was a rumour the producers wanted Matt to win, but wanted Saara to win.
I reckon he might sign 5am since there's a gap in the market without One Direction they did great in the voting.
Saara may have a good chance getting a deal from him. Strange he's signed Honey G but not Matt.

It's been red for almost a full day. Red means slowing sales.

Reaching TOP 3 with only 4 days of sales in this sales climate was always unlikely.

I guess that confirms that Cowell did cool on him significantly, if he was ever actually warm on him in the first place.

I think the strategy is no more complicated than devolving responsibility for whatever follows.

If RCA can make him a success than fair play. But I suspect they will put in minimum effort , grab whatever quick return they can from a rushed album and then quietly drop him down the road. Meanwhile Cowell gets to hold his hands up and say 'not my fault'.

I'd put money on 5AM being the act he wants. The sheer amount of help they got on the show points to that. F*** knows why, but he obviously thinks he can sell their records to someone.

Matt is not a cheeky dancing chappie like Olly Murrs, he's more in the Matt Cardel school of stand and wail in a high voice, like a male diva. If singers can dance a bit too, they tend to be more marketable - Justin Timberlake, Jason De Rulo, Usher, Chris Brown and many others.

Not sure that will happen. Saara said in an interview (I think Finnish) that she didn't want to win the show, which she probably thought would mean being automatically signed to his label. I dunno, just guessing. I think if Cowell wanted to sign her there would be something on Google about it but there's nothing.

I think Cowell is hoping that 5 After Midnight will have the same success that One Direction did. Basically, I think he's hoping for a One Direction 2. If he drops Honey G before the next series starts showing, why wash his hands of Matt? Unless maybe Matt was being difficult behind the scenes and Cowell decided that he wouldn't have the same after the show maybe. I dunno.

What do you mean 'we'?

Olly Murs is one of the most successful artists in the history of the show, whether you like him or not. It's no surprise they're tapping into the same market.

I did think they'd be going for a Sam Smith-type audience but anyway...

I've heard Matt's song on the radio a couple of times - it's better than some of the winners songs they have had so hope sales continue for him

Will RCA release the winners song

I don't think Matt is like Olly at all - he doesn't do any dad dancing for a start
