so SOC has been in the job for nearly 6 months now, and we literally havent heard anything from him, even quotes when characters have left/been axed have all been through an Eastenders spokesperson, do we think we will ever hear anything from him?

In a way this is a good thing, because it shows he isn't rushing to declare his big plans for the show. He's away doing his thing, with the EastEnders team and that's good. Executive Producers once upon a time, you saw at the end credits of each episode.

It's only in the last decade, especially with the rise of soap forums such as this plus the mixed fortunes of particularly EastEnders, that there's been a scrutiny on writers and Producers. It's difficult having someone like Sean O'Connor, a man who is obviously very private, to come in after Dominic Treadwell Collins, who was quite prolific in the media, both on social and in print. I think Dominic was brought in to make a splash with EastEnders, as there hadn't been anything for nearly two years and the show was dying for the want of drama.

Personally though, I'd love even one interview from Sean. It's always interesting to hear a Producer's plans. Now he's been in the role for over 6 months, his work is beginning to transmit and from early on, the change in direction and tone has changed quite clearly. And it's divided viewers. Some like myself have welcomed the new direction, focusing more on character based drama, whilst some are crying out for something big to happen.
I want to hear what Sean's vision 2017, his first full year at EastEnders is. He's starting it big, by disposing of Ronnie and Roxy....

Does he even use social media? I honestly prefer producers that are more open.

Nope he doesn't, which isn't exactly a bad thing, DTC used it far too much

I think Ronnie and Roxy would be why he doesn't want to do an interview. He's under a lot of pressure. He flops their exit and he is going to be out within the year. The current "leaked" story has not been well received and most people think a disappointing exit, including myself but I'm not seeing threads of people excited to see this story, which they should be. You can't axe big names, with low key/ boring/ dud exits and not get backlash. I'l be more interested if he gives an interview post the episodes and post the expected negativity that comes from what is supposedly the proposed story. Ronnie is a controversial character; so yes some of the audience will be happy to see her go good or bad exit; but she is also a popular character and one of the bigger named actresses of the show. Look at how much media sensation Danielle's death caused and the baby swap, with them not expecting the backlash then as it was "villain" Ronnie

You need a balance though Interest needs to be created.

I still think there is interest without the producer needing to be on social media

Providing he makes sure next year is excellent, and a step up from some of the utter tripe we've been dealt since April/May I don't care if he never speaks to the media.

I quite like not knowing what to expect.

I'd rather that than a load of hype that he fails to deliver on. Half the time DTC said one thing in interviews and did another.

SOC isn't obliged to give an interview. Back in the 90s, you rarely heard from the producer. In fact most people wouldn't have been able to tell you their name. That's probably still true now outside of internet fans.

Interviews and Social Media are inspected to an outrageous degree on here, so in a way it's nice that we having nothing to go on really.

If he retweeted Danny Dyer, or mentioned him in a tweet I'm sure that there would be uproar and 'best mates' claims.

I really like the idea that if you want to know what's happening in EastEnders, you just have to watch it!

Well let's see how he fares with this "fantastic exit" for the Mitchell sister quoted then as that will be his first test of delivery. And current forum discussion seems to suggest "epic fail" so lets hope there are some twists!

He's making the show unwatchable. I didn't want to give up till the Mitchell sisters last ep, but its just a chore tuning in now .

In the olden days there were no such things as the internet, social media etc and producers didn't give interviews and there was no lack of interest (I was born in the 1960s and remember those days well).
