Do they still exist
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() it would be interesting to know how it works tbh , is it a normal business arrangement or is it softened for TV purposes ,, are his other partnerships still going or has anyone gone bust ? http://www.amshold.com/social_media/...portunity.html Now, if the winner's new company makes use of Lord Sugar's team's services or moves into his building, this will be charged to the new company at a commercial rate but only for the time actually used. The Dragons have similar arrangements. Lord Sugar's book, Unscripted: My 10 Years in Telly, describes this. |

Very glad Alana's in the final, but really don't understand why Courtney's there at all.
Did anyone else think it was unfair for the interviewers (Claude in particular, if I remember rightly) and then later LS himself to pick on Alana for saving money? It seemed like she was making a tidy profit with her business as it was and was doing a very honourable and sensible thing of socking most of that profit away to save for a deposit on a house. In the final five it looked like she had already invested in the business anyway, moving from her/her parents kitchen and setting up a more professional/industrial kitchen in garage/shed/wherever it was. At some point though the costs to expand are greater than the profits being made, and particularly with a food business I'd imagine the savings Alana has already accumulated simply weren't enough to fund the next step for the business. which is why she'd applied for TA in the first place. I also expect that Alana had no grand ideas for her business until the TA opportunity presented itself, and so saving for a few years for a house deposit would absolutely be the sensible thing to do. Courtney's problem is lack of confidence, which he can gain. On the surface he's a better bet than Alana is! |

Sugar was so desperate to put Courtney up that he pretended that the grey import/end of line trade had no way of expanding. I mean, who has even heard of TK Maxx or Sports Direct?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhxLuG7qtwA At around 26.00 minutes he tells Peter Jones how he bought the entire stick of the whole MFI chain, worth around £68 million, "and got change out of £3 million". |

Alana was ripping the public off charging high prices for inferior quality cake, so that she could buy a house with the profits! She's not exactly a business person with her main interest in having a business. and more what she can get out of it! I pity her workers, who do work for her, as they won't get much from it.

So would you put up your own money into a small business and all the risks its comes with , knowing the person wanting you to invest is sitting on a nice little nest egg, and that if the business comes to nothing you lose your money, but that person doesnt as they now have a nice new house ?
All i'm saying is Sugar is quite within his rights to question her savings, if he is investing in her business, and i think anyone doing due diligence would do the same. And a guy with a billion in the bank telling a girl she should risk the roof over her head, to make him money, is pretty ridiculous. |

Courtney's been useless throughout the whole process, can't even nake the minimum wage, and is producing useless tat . He's just not very bright. He's looking like the worst potential winner yet if he wins. At some point, the series can't get away with having winners who have weak show performances, and have been written off as useless for weeks.
What we do not know is whether Courtney is living on a shoestring because he is ploughing all the profits back into the company, or because it is not making any money in the first place. I suppose it is possible that the Paperchase order has tied up a lot of money because he will need to have made, stored and delivered the physical stock. And (after checking his website) is he really that creative or just riffing on two basic ideas -- the gentleman baby and emojis? http://www.bubblegumstuff.com/ |

Courtney's problem is lack of confidence, which he can gain. On the surface he's a better bet than Alana is! And show me any business person who doesn't have a strong interest in getting what they can out of that business. That's generally why people start businesses in the first place - to make money and be their own boss. Alana is no different to Courtney or even Sugar himself in that regard. Alana was running her business, making a legitimate profit and using some of that profit to save to buy herself a house. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and in fact I think it's a perfectly sensible thing for a young woman to do. I think it was unfair for the interviewers to single her out for such a thing - they didn't tear other candidates a new one for using some of their business profits to pay their rent or mortgage. Just because Alana can benefit from (presumably) free lodgings with her parents doesn't mean she's able to or even wants to take advantage of her parents forever. |

I thought that Claude and especially Brady were too harsh on Courtney regarding the whole charisma thing. Brady must have repeated it about 10 times throughout the whole thing. Someone should have told her that Sugar is looking for a business partner rather than a movie star.

She does the work, he provides the expansion money, she gets a bigger profit, he grabs half her profits- perfectly fair.

Due to DS's bad upgrade timing the forum was down (please don't do any work on them on Sunday!) what did you think of the interveiws?
First off come on Claude who turns down free cake! What happened to Francis's business partner and she really needs to hire a PA and an accountant. She also wants to do more lingerie shoots in the future so her business plan might be on hold for a while. Grainne who has been very logical just crumbled, if this had been the old version she would have made it into the finale. Jessica really come off as loopy and even worse on Your Fired, I was not a fan of her dress! She wasn't aware that one of her own business a director had quit and that she was a director of one of her old companies?! I hope she sorts that out soon as she can be held liable (soon to apear on Can't Pay We'll Take it Away). ![]() I'm sure there was a fith but I just can't remember... I think it was a guy but I kept on falling asleep! ![]() ![]() Out of the two left I'm rooting for Alana to win I wonder if she'll still have a boyfriend if LS tells her to fire him! It's nice to see the old chaff back to 'help' out, Pauls as happy as ever! Did anyone notice if Mukai was back or had he started his job at the Travelodge, I mean job in Tokyo yet? ![]() Funny that.

And the way he did it was very rude and ignorant to boot I thought - but very few mentioned it. On the other hand when Karren refused a drink from Courtney the forum was in meltdown.

I have to say, I was glad when Frances told one of the female gargoyles to "let [her] finish". I can't stand the Bulldozer Routine during the interviews. I know most of these candidates are idiots, but they get a bit too personal for my liking.

Funny that. ![]() It's all part of the game though innit - put them on the back foot and see how they cope, or don't. Not the way I would want to conduct an interview personally but they probably think it makes better telly. |

When I was watching the 'Finale 5' episode he came across as quite cold and indifferent when speaking about Alana.

It was pretty rude - he looked disgusted at the very idea then basically told her to get out of his face.

Yes -- and Claude says as much in his book. In the first series he played it straight and got about five seconds of airtime, so he developed his more aggressive persona.
So to treat the candidates like dirt is good then ? |

Courtney is indeed a wet lemon.
Fortunately that can be fixed. Whether Lord Sugar wants to pay for it is open to doubt. RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) when it is not churning out actors, runs courses for business on subjects like personal presence and making an impact. https://www.radainbusiness.com/ Doubtless similar courses are run elsewhere, and if Claude reads DS, he should think about adding this sort of training at his eponymous business school at UWL.

I was really surprised that Grainne didn't get through when you consider what a strong and confident woman she is. And we know this because she kept telling us every week. It's so much easier when someone tells you how strong they are so you don't have to go through the tedious process of judging them on their performance.
