They claim child allowance, and with that many children would be a small fortune every month, what they mean is that they work as well. Yes they get on my nerves as well, as a collective they cost society a huge amount.

I have watched a couple of these shows but for them to say they get no benefits imo is wrong.

The mother has not had to pay for dental or prescriptions for I would think 20 years. How much have they saved there

Do you agree that the planet in general is overpopulated? IMO, yes, hence the mess we are in regarding resources and other life forms here. So, the more mouths to feed, the worse the problem is going to get. Whether they support their kids or not (they don't fully, as their children get various state benefits and help, irrespective of family income) is not really the main issue here. Father is going to be taking more out of the system than he puts in, almost certainly.

Although this country as an aside, doesnt have a high enough birth rate to replace the population which has an impact on how we continue to provide services for the aging population.

The family are entitled to benefits as much as everyone else. Those children will grow up and, hopefully, contribute to Society.

I think you might find that is changing with the current demographics regarding some ethnic minorities. Take the Pakistani families around here. They all seem to have lots of children like it is going out of fashion. Each one being a huge burden on the state.

If a lower birth rate means fewer people around then so be it. The present system is unsustainable in the long term, so people are going to have to die younger. While the birth rate exceeds the death rate overall around the world we are on a road to nowhere.

How do you know that they're a huge burden on the state? Assuming that they receive Child Benefit each one will be a small burden at worst. If you're going to argue against people having so many children you should consider the very real burden to the Earth, not some small, imagined financial burden to the taxpayer.

Unless you're earning over £60k, every child will be eligible for child benefit. Then there are the costs of free state education, NHS prescriptions/dental treatment/glasses. Plus the costs of NHS care in general. Some children also get free or discounted rates for bus travel, paid for by the council.

The figures about our replacement rate, takes into account high birth rates within different ethnic or religious groups. We are still not producing enough children to replace us.
