I thought it quite fun and yes its the first 'lets go back to major events' type show I've seen since "Time Tunnel" way back when!
Strangely the thing thats been bugging me was why did mr hero soldier guy try to diffuse the bomb (when he had no idea how to) rather than just chuck it out of the window?
Oh, and the main baddie with the Prof's yet to be written diary is obviously her son
The obvious plot is that he's trying to save her from future harm, which would be ironic as she's trying to stop him!

I don't quite get that either, unless there was some critical line that was edited out or something where we were told that e.g. they were over a city at that exact moment and couldn't risk more casualties.
Also missed a trick because they could just have easily been over their time ship and damaged it and would never be sure if the next trip would be the trip home

Oh, and the main baddie with the Prof's yet to be written diary is obviously her son
Or husband or grandson (etc) but yes that does make a lot of sense.
Or he's a save-the-planet extremist who nicked the book from a museum of fictional authors' original insane 'what if' scribblings?

Total digression, on the basis that I don't see the surname 'Jaffrey' on screen a lot, I had a suspicion that turned out to be right, Sakina Jaffrey (who I don't recall seeing before, apparently she is not usually in the sort of stuff I watch) is the daughter of Madhur and Saeed, both of whom I remember from 'one or two years ago'

They've already changed the present, so presumably that effectively Swiss-cheeses their memories too.

Some random musing on my part. Why does the plot have to be that the "bad guy" is trying to kill either more people or more important people compared with the "real" timeline? Why shouldn't saving those who did die be an aim in itself?

After all, that would lead to 37* people ,and any descendants, running around the last 80 years of history doing things that they wouldn't otherwise have done. And also removed a few people from history who exist because their mother or father didn't get together with someone who'd flown on the Hindenberg first.

*Including the made-up journalist.

Doesn't sound positive for series 2!!
It doesn't but Channel 4 were promoting it on air this week as being a smash hit! Might be a few disappointed viewers if it gets axed in the new year.

Watch the next few episodes. It's a lot more complicated than that! No, really, a lot more complicated!

She's only really got into television in the last couple of years having been a screen actress for over 20 years but she's certainly made the most of it with recurring roles in Sleepy Hollow (horror), Halal In The Family (sitcom), Mr Robot (tech drama), The Mindy Project (comedy) and now Timeless.

Well, the first episode was enough to pique my interest, so I'll be keeping my eye on it.

There was another US show with a similar premise in the 50s

Well I just caught up with this and I enjoyed it, undemanding yet engaging. I'll definitely be sticking with it for a bit.

Always room for a show like this among the heavyweights like Westworld etc. I thought initially it had a bit of the film Time After Time about it but it is also clearly in the Time Tunnel, Quantum Leap, even Primeval mould (the disappearing sister reminding me of Cutter's "where's Claudia Brown" moment.

You may find that another upcoming time travel series has even more of that film in it's origins.

Time after Time TV Series Trailer.

Obviously not a new basic idea but I found the first episode very enjoyable and there were clear indications that it will become more complex.

About the only thing that irritated me was the 'soft' version of a rock song (near the end). Such a hackneyed device.

It's hardly 'hard' in its original version. Gilmour plays it acoustically in concert. It's been recorded by other artists as jazz, R&B, and classical. Even Susan Boyle has done a version. This one, by Audrey Assad, dates from 2012 and is a lot less soft than you imagine from the excerpt.

I don't disagree and that kind of thing normally irritates the crap out of me but in this instance I think they didn't do badly on that front.

They used a song/version with a tune that I thought fitted reasonably well with the scenes and without the over-emphasised vocals that jar and have you wondering why they chose that track to blare at you. It was definitely 'the epilogue theme' (as it were) for that episode, and the vocals fitted rather than having me wonder if it was a thing on the radio for next episode or someone shouting from the next room (etc).

On the other hand if they make a bad choice at the end of next episode, I'll be right there with you on the protest march

Fair enough. We'll see what happens. I hope it's not going to be a regular feature as it is in some shows.

I found the first episode to be OK. I didn't like the male soldier character (from 2016) though, and am not relishing the prospect of the romance between him and the professor that seemed to be hinted at.

Well ep. 2 has a very different type of ending so you should be ok for another week at least!

I didn't realise the actress who plays the main lead is also the actress who plays Amantha in Rectify.

She is such a different character.

Quite ridiculous if you over-think it, but I'm watching it just to see where they're going with it, out of curiosity. Switch off brain, enjoy the drama..... kind of works
