First off:
1) what are you doing on Christmas Eve and the New Year's Eve?
2) which do you/did you prefer when going out?

I'm an oldie (ish) so I don't go out on Christmas Eve or New Years Eve now but when I was into pub bing and clubbing I much preferred Christmas Eve atmosphere.

How about you?

Christmas Eve during the day will be prepping for dinner as we are hosting this year. Will start the day with a kick ass breakfast first. After prep will chill watching Muppets Christmas Carol then probably a box set with some fizz. Can't face going out on Christmas Eve.

New Years Eve will be in Spain with the family, although it's a fairly muted affair as it's more sedate than the UK.

Christmas Eve I'm in hospital (and likely over Christmas Day too) having radiotherapy. This will be the third Christmas in a row spent inside hospital so it's sort of become my own tradition!

New Year's Eve I'll likely be home alone and feeling sorry for myself. Another tradition!

To be honest is nice not being home alone sometimes. As much as you want to be around all of your home comforts, the company I get in hospital is most welcome.

Aww.

I prefer being home alone, no forced conversations and I can watch tv .

I found the missing out on xmas dinner the hardest bits of having to stay in hosp.

I really enjoy Christmas Eve now that I'm older - moreso than Christmas Day itself. Even without kids, it still holds a sense of magic. I particularly enjoy listening to the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Radio 4, live from King's College Cambridge.

Hogmanay is usually a quiet affair at home. It's become something of a tradition to watch whatever comedy BBC1 serves up after midnight - so we'll likely be up till 2am watching Graham Norton!

Which would win in a fight between Christmas and New Year?

Christmas eve is fairly relaxed for me, usually just chill in front of TV, New Years eve I loved it when I used to go out, The Millenium was one of if not the best night out I ever had. These days however in my late 30's I find it rather depressing, it marks the end of the holidays and back to work shortly so its not something I celebrate any more, in fact I've been in bed before midnight this past 2 years.

Sitting at home eating and watching TV on Christmas Eve. Drinking champagne in front of the TV on New Year's Eve.
The Christmas period is the one time of year I tend to avoid the pubs. Especially during the party period before Christmas - the tossers are out in full force.

Sorry to hear that Jim.Sounds like you are going through a pretty bad time. But at least you are getting the treatment and can look to the future.

If previous years are anything to go by,New Year's Eve is a pretty good night on these forums

I'm from Northern Europe so Christmas Eve is my main Christmas. Sadly my husband is working, but I'll be spending the day just relaxing with his family and will treat everyone to a nice meal with some Nordic Christmas dinner influences. Where I'm from the night out happens on Boxing Day and that's always a really good one, but obviously won't be doing that now.

Haven't got a clue what I'm doing NYE. I'm not really that into partying, it's such a waste of a day being hung over, so will probably just have a quiet one at home watching the London fireworks from the balcony. Won't be sad to miss the apocalyptic crowds and extortionate entry prices to clubs - none of it appeals at all.

Christmas Eve will be very quiet and low key. Probably last minute preparation and a quiet meal with my mum. New years eve is spent at home, away from all the noise and the fuss and I will be tucked up in bed asleep before midnight

Xmas eve I will see my nieces and nephew for a couple of hours
Xmas day at home with hubby. We are having pork this year
Boxing Day at home with hubby although he has to work in the evening so I'll walk with him into town to get some fresh air
New Year's Eve is a Saturday so lucky not to be working, hubby is working both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. I plan on going to the gym NYE at some point in the day then go home and get ready to meet my husband as he finishes work. We will see the new year in before getting home. New Year's Day I will attend the gym again and finalise my Ocado food shop for 2nd

The millenium was the last New Year that I went out - I was pregnant at the time and it was a lovely evening, great to have no hangover the next morning too It was also my first NY in Bath.

I like Christmas Eve - I'll be on here as usual and tracking Santa via NORAD with Jr and then on Christmas Day Jr will open her presents then we are off out for lunch at 3pm at a pub in a nearby town. As it's my first Xmas parentless I'm not keen on staying in the house feeling sad.

A change from last Xmas which was spent in the hospital with Mum.

New Year's Eve I shall be on here again as I was last year for the online party, probably have a rare drink and just enjoy the tunes people put on here, and the company.

I think it's all going to be rather depressing this year.

I'm single, I'm working Christmas Eve, my brain has decided it wants to be ultra depressive and ridiculous, ****ing sick of it.

I think I might go out for a few drinks with a mate I've not seen in a whle, see how it goes.
