I don't think they've done the upgrade yet

the last couple of days was just transferring all the content

it'll shut down again soon for the actual upgrade

that's how I read it

You're imagining it. Nothing has changed. They just performed some preliminary tests is all.

Thanks for letting us all know DS is up and running again though. We hadn't noticed.

Oh I see!, thanks.

Migration first, then the update?

Hmmm---that seems a little risky to me, doing it that way but one assumes the DS powers that be know what they are doing.

Speak for yourself.

It's definitely running a little faster/smoother on my PC, it's connecting quicker.

Interesting. First it seemed (to you) to be running a little faster, or maybe smoother, but now that I've pointed out that nothing has changed it's definitely running a little faster/smoother on your PC, and it's connecting quicker! The power of suggestion, eh?

In all seriousness, they haven't changed a thing. They've copied a lot of the assets from this site to the new site to perform some tests. Nothing more.

Is there any need to store the millions of past threads and posts ?

This would stop at a stroke the numpties who disinter the rotting corpses of 10 year old threads for no discernable reason.

Interesting---what was your power of suggestion, eh?

Good point, they always almost completely wipe out all of the BB section posts and threads a few days after every BB.

Oh, it isn't my power, it's something that you've done to yourself.

The threads from the last Big Brother are still there.

I'm fairly sure nobody is interested in your old posts, what with you not having any...

The rest of us like to be able to look back, and not have history erased.

I think you're mistaken, jp. Old threads are not deleted. They are assets, which will help to pull in new users who Google something and find old threads. It costs almost nothing to store millions of old posts, and creating dead links by removing them isn't very good practice.

Do you not think that the reason the forums are running a bit faster might be that most of the users haven't yet returned from their enforced holiday?

1 gajillion kudos points for the last person who posted before the upgrade/downtime began and the first person who posted after the forums went live again.

It does seem to be running quicker on my slow tablet, but as somebody else has pointed out it may because there's fewer people here at the moment.

Even the crapware that runs the adverts seems smooth at the moment with no page bouncing around problems.

If you change "Show Threads" at the bottom of each forum from "Last Week" or whatever the default has been set to, to the "Beginning", and then click on "Show Threads", you'll be able to see all the posts:

I like to research old threads, not to resurrect them but to find out what the attitudes were at the time, like who was the forum favourite during an old Big Brother series.
