Brexit hits Pink wafer maker Rivington Biscuits as it goes into administration cutting 100 jobs

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/bu...-a7476881.html

Rivington Biscuits, the maker of Pink Panther wafers, has gone into administration, blaming the fall in the value of the pound following the Brexit vote.

The company, a key employer in Wigan, which voted to leave the EU by nearly 64 per cent, said will it cut 99 of its 123 staff, as a result.
Crumbs!

You must have nearly exploded while the forum's were read-only, all those bad-Brexit stories causing so much bile and nowhere to vomit them up on*

*post thread title, link to article don't bother voicing an opinion. Rinse and repeat.

I'll just copy and paste the standard remainer reply to good economic news.

"Idiot, this can't be anything to do with brexit, we are still in the EU."

Interesting the Indie only touches (and I mean doesn't even notice brushing past on the bus level of touches) the fact the company has been on the downhill and unlikely to survive path for quite a while and the currency situation has just sped up the almost definite inevitable (even the BBC reported that fact in their 'blame this on Brexit but we know we can't really' article).

So what happened to the currency after the vote to leave the EU?

The value of the pound dropped - an aid to exports.

And so for imports?

Not good news for them - I was trying to balance your relentless "everything's bad" view of things, though.

(I realise it's a lost cause).

Any political decision has positives and negatives, that's what grown-ups understand when they vote for something.

Vote Tory and get Social Armageddon! But people did it because they used to believe the Tories can fix the economy.

Vote Labour and get a Massive Debt! Again, because there was a belief that when we can afford it Labour were the party for social improvement.

Exactly the company sells Pink Panther wafer biscuits for pete's sake. I wonder if they still sell Fruity Pebbles cereal?

Meanwhile Lidl is thinking of making the UK it's base.

All the while, the UK was still in the EU, when it happened.

Arghhh.......it was so nice and quiet without the remainers starting a new thread every minute. Now here they go again...............

In any case, Rivington Biscuits were already in trouble before the drop in the pound, it's the straw that broke the camel's back. The product that they were selling, isn't exactly something people want any more, and people are more health conscious nowadays. I mean, pink wafer biscuits, scream bad health and pink food colouring, most people would just avoid buying such an item nowadays. It's one of the toughest markets to contend with, and their product wasn't following with the times, so it's hardly surprising that they had financial trouble. Even if the pound didn't drop, they would have been faced with the same situation in the near future. That's why saying it's Brexit's fault, is just ridiculous.

Hang on, wouldn't it fire everybody if it was going in to administration or will it keep going?

They are keeping some staff, a little over 20 of them, to fulfil their remaining and outstanding orders. Then they'll be let go too.

No reason to vote LibDem...I am minded to concur

ISTR the dodgy boss of RBS had an intense dislike of the pink biscuits as well, and banned them from HQ meetings. Maybe they'd have had better luck if they deep fried them. But they are/were a subsidiary of a Dutch biscuit maker, who presumably had some say in pulling the plug. Rivington seemed to have a limited range of products, and Pink Panther branding doesn't exactly scream 21st Century.. more like bad memories of the '70s, or getting stale wafers served in boring meetings.

This has about as much relevance to Brexit as a spats manufacturer going under in the 40s.

This has reminded me that I did used to like those old biscuits that were thin with hard pink icing. I never cared for wafers.

If you want to show how little you understand what's going on around you and this is why referenda are a bad idea, you should.

And McDonalds is moving its HQ here

And this isn't the first time Rivingtons have had issues , one wonders was Brexit to blame for them needing financial assistance in 2002, 2004, 2007 and is Brexit to blame for their losses in recent years before any vote and when its revenues were falling before the company called it "portfolio optimisation".

Brexit is now responsible for EVERYTHING - even the mild weather we have been having.

Didn't you know that?

I look forward to the Brexit prevents snow on Christmas Day thread in a weeks time.
