If you had a time machine: what would you go back and find the truth about?

Different to your usual time machine thread were people chose to go back and see loved ones or cause changes that make them millionaires: This one is about historical mysteries, like the shooting of JFK.

So what would be on your list of things to finally solve?

And would you then decide to change the outcome?

And would you tell everyone (even if they didn't believe you) when you got back or keep it to yourself just to have the absolute pleasure of knowing the real facts?

How would you find out the things?

Get a job at the School Book depository building and at about 12:00pm crawl into a box on the sixth floor with a peephole and camera. Of course given the technology of today you could just set up a covert camera the kind of which they couldn't even imagine.

In other cases you could befriend the object of the event or just make sure that you are in the right place at the right time when in the real event, no one was there to witness it.

The identity of the Whitechapel killer - 'Jack the Ripper'.

Was there actual historical figures behind the legends of Yeshua ben Yosef, Muhammad or King Arthur?

Was there any reality to the story of the Ark of the Covenant and if so what did it look like?

The actual methods used in the building of the Great Pyramid (not the others though).

Abiogenesis.

Etc.

Did Hitler really shoot himself in the bunker?
What really happened in the Paris underpass?

I'd go back to 1967 and find out which toe-rag forgot to put the transparent parts in the Airfix model of the Heinkel He 111 I got for my birthday.

I always wondered why I had two sets of transparent parts in my kit.

I'd go back to see if there is any truth in this Jesus story.

Probably also check out the big bang.

Maybe the Nazi gold train and the Loch Ness monster.

You could verify or disprove the Big Bang theory. I'd rather have a cup of tea and a chat with my dad.

I'd find out what my thieving year 4 teacher did with my collection of old coins I took in to show to the rest of the class.
She kept making excuses, and I was too scared to tell my parents, as I hadn't asked permission to take them in. In hindsight, my dad would have marched right up to school and refuse to leave without them.

Apart from myself....
Did man walk on the moon?
How did Princess Diana really die?
Did Hitler kill himself or make a deal to quietly slip away?
Who really shot JFK?

Questions that I have doubts about answers we've been fed.

The Roswell incident is fascinating enough to want to find out if there's the slightest bit of truth in any of the conspiracy theories that surround it, but if a time machine could take me back to 1947 I would still be in Britain and Roswell would still be in America.

So what I'd really need would be a time-and-space machine that would pitch me into Roswell at the appropriate moment. This would probably be mistaken for an alien craft from outer space by onlookers, and claimed to be nothing more than a weather balloon by the military, sparking conspiracy theories deemed worthy of investigation by a time-and-space traveler approximately seventy years later.

Sometimes you're better off giving the time-and-space thing a miss and just staying home with a beer

Marie Celeste. Although it'd be very difficult to learn the truth without also being a victim to whatever fate awaited the people on board.

Very good.

I did wonder when somebody mentioned the Loch Ness Monster, and when somebody else mentioned the lunar landings, how a time machine was going to help.

I'm sure the whole "Jack the Ripper" theory industry (books, TV shows, walks, novelty goods, etc), would dispute your findings.

Their is no big event in history that keeps me up at night but to be honest i've had a fair few conversations where i'd be interested to know what was said after i left.

I think it's best if you don't announce that you're 'wasted' when you post a comment.

Well, obviously if you're going to use a time machine, it will also have a teleporting device installed, to take you to wherever you want to be....
As if both could ever happen, but it's nice to pretend, especially where my coins are concerned.
