Anyone booked a room via Air BnB before?
I mean a room as opposed to a whole place, which I've don before and is fine. But I'm travelling along and staying in someone else's house. I'm a quiet person anyway and the the thought of it is slightly intimidating. Can you just stay in the room most of the time if you want without talking? Not that I'm ignorant just introverted, and I would try and make pleasant chat on occasion. Anyone had direct experience?

Am sure I'm too late but my friend lets out a room through Air BNB and she says that they are happy to have guests join them in the lounge in the evening if they want but they play it by ear as everybody is different. She found that most prefer to stay in their room which suits her fine.
Some places might prefer you to stay in your room anyway and will likely tell you where you can / can't go but relax - you aren't under any obligation to join the family or anything like that. You're renting a room so feel free to stay in your room without worrying. Tbh my friend and oh work full time so rarely see their guests - they just leave them a key, bit of breakfast in the dining room and leave them to it. Read the reviews on the place and it might give you a clue as to how hands on or off the owners might be. |

You've probably had your stay by now but I still thought it was worth saying that no matter how big or small the b&b, the guest is paying to do what they want (within the terms & conditions and common sense and consideration, of course.
) I list on Airbnb and have booked accommodation for me via airbnb. If someone is staying with me and wants to sit down and chat for two hours getting advice on where to go and what to see plus directions, restaurant booked, etc, then that is what I do. If they want to arrive, say hi and retire to their room appearing only for breakfast and departure 16 hours later, they're entirely welcome to do that too. They're paying for the style of welcome and attention they want and it's up to the owner to provide that - but a bit of guidance from the guest (I'll probably be in my room most of the time so you'll hardly see me) is always useful info. Compared to non-paying family and friends staying, paying guests don't have to feel they need to entertain the host or offer to do the washing up - or tiptoe around their room / bathroom, etc. Though Meatloaf at full volume at 3am might not be appreciated. Just be yourself, relax and enjoy your stay. |
