I just came across this the other day & was pleasantly surprised by it. It seemed above average than alot of the sci-fi stuff that's come out & the plolines seem interesting. It seems to have a fair budget & for tv the effects weren't too bad - someone said it draws from Battlestar Reboot & Firefly - which is why I had to give it a go. The only irritating thing is Thomas Janes wardrobe... is like he's trying to channel Rick Deckard in his demeanor.

It pretty much sets a new bar for sci-fi, can't wait for season 2.

I've been binging on it the past few days, have to re-watch alot of it as its quite dialogue heavy & there's so much going on. So glad there's a season two. I was initially more into the stuff happening with Holden & his crew & the political machinations with the amazing Shohreh Aghdashloo on earth, but the 'belter stuff with Thomas Janes character has grown on me. Never even heard of the book series its based on. Its a Sy Fy original, like BG.

Yeah, it's crazy how deep the show is and how much there really is to pick up on, it's even crazier that it comes from SyFy, their shows aren't usually so damn good.
Like you I haven't heard of the books, might read them one day though.

After seeing the first season I bought the books and have read the first 3 completely and am part way through the 4th. The first season is roughly half the first book, should be a good second series based on the book. I enjoyed the 2nd book the most, the 3rd was pretty good too. However I've not been enjoying the 4th book so much, it's quite slow so far.

I found the first episodes a bit slow and a bit muddling! However it certainly picked up and what an ending. The only thing I found rather tedious were the earth scenarios - I don't think the woman with the gravelly voice helped as I found it somewhat off putting.

She doesn't even appear in the first book, but shows from the 2nd onwards. The first book never has any Earth based storyline, it's all about Holden and Miller.

No idea why they needed to shoehorn her in so early in the story

Have to admit I really liked the gravel voiced woman (Shohreh Aghdashloo)! I can appreciate her voice maybe a little off-putting, but her character was gr8 (for me)
I'm re-watching eps 9 &10 tonight... And can't wait for S2.

I liked her character too. The murky politics of her scenes is an interesting contrast to the detective story and the adventure of the other parts of the show. It looks like she got 80% of the costume budget too. Some of those outfits are fantastic.

Yes, this is my christmas viewing (pretty much my *only* christmas viewing) and it's well up to expectations.

Multi-layered, interesting characters. I disagree about comparing it to BSG or Firefly, I like Expanse It's much more thought-provokinig that either of those two.
Though for those who know their SF, I did expect the belters to have more radical haircuts

Just finished watching this. Very impressed. Really looking forward to season 2. Only criticisms I have are some of the dialogue was mumbled or too quiet to hear, particularly Miller's. Also I don't rate Shohreh Aghdashloo at all, I think she's an awful actress.
