What do people think of the new trailer? It looks as if he can definitely act.

Harry stans are all upset, thinking he drowns in the film.

As you'd expect, 1D fans cannot tell acting from reality.

The film looks really good from the trailer. It's difficult to make an opinion of Harry's acting since he doesn't feature much in the trailer but the bits of him I did see look promising.

Not sure if he drowns. He seems to be in other scenes a lot so that could be from the beginning when he almost drowns.

We'll have to wait and see.

When I saw the title, "Harry Styles drowns in", I was expecting to read something else...

I hope he CAN act! Although it doesn't matter if he can't, all his zillions of fans will go and see the film and it will be a box office success, if nothing else.

This is that kind of film that will be brilliantly made and well acted, Harry Styles would not be in it if he couldn't act, not with that cast. Dunkirk looks like it is going to be devestatingly honest about what happened and how many men were slaughtered.

Totally agree. Nolan would never have cast Harry if he hadn't done well at the auditions and hadn't shown he could swim in rough water and didn't mind performing underwater stunts. Casting someone as famous as Styles could have wrecked the film if he'd been a rubbish actor.

That's why I hate films like this.

It was a real event that killed many.

Nothing good about it in that sense.

You can make a good movie about a bad event. And even though the event was bad, the heroism shown by ordinary civilians in their boats was extraordinary. I imagine it will be a very emotional movie. It's surprising no one's made a movie about it before really.

There has:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051565/

a long time ago though.

I do agree about the sentiment though, it is possible to make good and meaningful movies about bad events. Schindlers List for example, I actually think everyone should see that as a lesson from history.

And ofcourse the phrase "Dunkirk spirit" lives on as a statement of willingness to pull together to beat difficult odds.

I think that people have not realised what they went through and how many men were slaughters at Dunkirk. This is clearly a film that has been made to win Bafta's and other awards. It will be a very good springboard for Harry Styles to be taken seriously as an actor, it will do him more good that appearing in Hollyoaks or Coronation Street.

Or in a romantic comedy, which is the way boybanders traditionally launch themselves into movies. He does look convincing as a 1940 soldier; he has an old fashioned kind of face.

The film is advertised as The Event Which Shaped Our World so its importance is not being underplayed, nor is Nolan touting a romantic element to distract from the seriousness of the situation, as happened when it was portrayed in Atonement. That was still a brilliant film but is the only time Dunkirk has been represented realistically in recent times.

Exactly. Titanic being an obvious example.
