Hollyoaks - Sophie Porley (Ellie) ***Spoilers***
Proper impressed with Sophie Porley and her recent scenes as Ellie. I remember when she first came into the show and I said I found her rather weak but happy to say I am eating my words.
![]() Just read on twitter she cut her real hair during those scenes on E4 last night. Fair play. |

Yeah, I agree. They were right to give her this storyline so she could have the chance to sink her teeth into some good material.
I found the scene where she attacked Nick in the hospital really powerful, actually. I never thought about it before, but for people who have been through things like this, they must feel like they want to physically hurt their attackers sometimes for what's happened. It isn't just about being scared of them. There's a lot of rage too because they've taken their rights away by violating them. I was surprised when it happened but then I thought about how much sense it makes that she did that. Like I said, that was powerful for me and Sophie did a great job. Cutting her hair too, that took guts. |

I wouldn't go so far as to say she is appalling but I think they have used the wrong character to work this storyline on.

I agree... that the wrong character was used in this particular storyline... I'm not a huge fan of the character Ellie and I'm only picking up moody hysterical petulance from the character... nothing deeper or fractured.... to indicate the 'too drunk to consent' non-consensual rape crime...
I'm hoping she improves... it's a worthy subject matter |

Think she is doing a great job myself and I did not rate her when she started. I think she is probably one of the few they could do this with. Lisa isn't a character to be bothered about this as she regularly alludes to drunken one night stands. The other college going girls (which is mainly the age group this storyline is targetting) are cleo (already been through enough tragedy this year it would seem ott), holly (well she is intermingled in this, as I'm sure Nick's boundary issues will surface with her), Lisa (outlined above) and Ellie. And as a girl who doesn't sleep around but has had a couple of one night stands, few friends...it does allow for more storyline scope as she does't have people to confide in

This is part of the problem. It looks like they've decided they're going to do this storyline and then fished around for a character to do it and instead of having a "best fit" have actually got a "least worst fit". They'd have been better introducing a new character and letter her establish a bit before embarking on the storyline instead of retconning Ellie.
