I am slightly disappointed how the contestants dance experience is being unfairly used against them.

Danny Mac went to an arts school and played parts on the west end and he has had to publicly defend himself and his previous experience. Whereas Louise perhaps has the most dance background as she trained with Italia arts academy with a dance specialism and was even a judge on so you think you can dance owing to her dance credentials. Yet this is overlooked and ignored. On the final take two - judges/guest judges spoke about how both Ore and Louise came from nowhere in terms of dance ability, but Danny had professional training.

This sounds like unfairness to me.

Clearly Ore is the only one with no prior dance training. And one would suggest that Louise is the most experienced and trained dancer.
Totally agree

I'm not sure if Louise has had dance training
If they have been to any drama/theatre school they have dance to some extent, although it may be contemporary dance rather than ballroom/latin.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but here is a clip of Louise explaining how she went to stage school, trained as a dancer and that was her first job (around the 3 minute mark)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMoqh3EMpZk

Like you, I couldn't believe they said she came from nowhere in terms of dance ability on ITT.
It's difficult to comprehend why they would do this.

Now the series is over too much was made of Danny's previous experience yes he had a little bit of dance training but not as much training as people think he did have.

It annoys me Danny is a natural dancer and one of the main reasons why Danny was as good as he was because of Oti. People need to give her credit too much the amount of hard work she and Danny put in every week to become the best dancer he could be.

Even some of his friends who he went with college with said he was rubbish and they didn't know he would be this good.

And also its wasn't just Danny who had previous dance experience yet he was the one who seemed to be getting the most flak its not his fault the producers asked him to do the show.

I am just so glad Danny said yes because what we got with him and Oti was magic and some routines that will go down in the history books. It will be hard for any couple to give the quality of dance they gave every week.

So - he DID study dance at college, but wasn't any good? I doubt he'd have got in if he was hopeless.

But he's a 'natural' dancer. How does that work?

You see, I don't care if he's a ringer, I don't care if Louise was. I've supported ringers. But he was OBVIOUSLY stage trained, minimising that just doesn't wash.

Danny is a dancer who knows he needed a huge amount of practice. Big difference to someone who finds moving to music easy.

What he has is that rare thing of not being self conscious about how to move, which is why his Latin dances in particular were so good.

Tbh, the thing that annoys me more is when they go on about people having "no dance experience".

It annoyed me with Ore this year and Anita last year even though I voted for both of them at different stages. I must be one of the only one who does, but I give my three votes to my three favourite dances of the night, which may well change each week. If I develop a favourite it tends to be because they are consistently good.

These sort of reflects what I think about Danny. His tech is mostly good enough, but not great, (he finds it difficult to learn)

- and he covers up and distracts with stagecraft and showmanship. (He is unselfconscious)

Mind he's stage trained and that does help.

BIB: I took that as meaning that some people have natural rhythm and have more of a natural aptitude to learn to dance than others. I think some people do have natural abilities and can take to a new skill quicker than others.

I think all this talk of ringers and alleged previous dance experience is such a waste of time. If the producers think that someone fits the criteria to appear on the show (i.e. no previous ballroom or latin dance experience) then I don't understand why there is the need to keep querying their alleged previous dance experience. The time to do that is when the producers are making the decisions about a celebs suitability to appear on the show, not AFTER they have been asked to participate/have signed up.

Would help if they pronounced this loud and clear right at the start. Not half way through when the lie has built up so much momentum the truth does not stand a chance.

Or worse still, the judges start playing along with the lie

I mean there was a decent run of people with dance experience winning, including a pretty massive ringer in Jay winning the year before. It's not like the poor, put upon, picked on experienced dancers are massively disadvantaged by the non-experienced dancers or the judges pointing out that so and so hasn't had any training.

I honestly don't get why it is such a big deal this year when it has been pointed out every single year that the show has been on.

Probably the combination of the "Never Danced Before" even at his wedding claim, when there was evidence to the contrary. With the assumption that Musical Theatre = Dancing.

For me it's a big deal this year because Danny's experience was pointed out time and time and time again and they didn't mention Louise's, even lying about it on ITT.

What?

What the hell is stage training if Loiuse didn't have that ? She never ever performed then ?

Nor did Ore in his role as a presenter , nor on the Comic Releif dance?

So basically you don't mind dance traing as long as they don't do it on a stage? Oh the horror. Because performing on TV in front of millions is so much better

Given it's a TV programme I would have thought dancing on TV would have been more relevant to the SCD experience.

Yes both Danny and Loiuse trained in dance for a lot longer than Ore, but I think your really grasping at straws to complain the the reason why Danny dance experience " worse" or more " unfair " is that it is compounded by stage experience?

I think it was a big deal this year, because that's the way TPTB wanted it. I don't think they care particularly who wins, but I do think they bother about which slot in the Strictly cast list wins. They are in the business of attracting celebs to the show. Three perceived 'ringer' wins on the trot could make it harder to attract quality never danced befores. Now that particular playing field is levelled.

Spidey senses say next year dance experience will take a back seat, and the 'preferred win slot' allocated to the female celeb side of the cast.

So Danny doing a Drama course at Arts Ed means he had no dance training?

To have any real chance of making it on the West End stage you need to be a Triple Threat and studying drama alone really does not cut it.

Many a Drama student can be found down at Pineapple dance studios just prior to auditions for a musical or an extra tick on the CV.

I am not saying Danny went to Pineapple(nudge, nudge, wink, wink), but I would be surprised he didn't.

And many a drama student can be found down the riding stables prior to an audition when they need to be able to swash-a-buckle or gallop across the moors in period dress. Don't mean they're going to be riding the next Grand National though

Stage experience is not dissimilar to gymnastic floor routines, in as much as the same choreography is repeated night after night, giving muscle memory.

What professional dancers do have, which NONE of the contestants ever have, is an ability to pick up a routine in a very short time, because they have many years of learning the various different dance styles, so they immediately grasp the difference between a latin or ballroom number, with the music directing the style. It it the invidiousness of comparing ANY contestant with a professional, sticks in my craw.

To me, having not had Danny so much as a blip on the radar pre Strictly, his 'triple threatness' seems to be an actor who can sing and, if called upon and given enough time can master a routine.
