Sounds as if this may cause a problem. Whether Darcey really is trying to be Head Judge or not, I think it's unlikely she'd get the job as she's not a ballroom expert. Apparently Craig doesn't want it. Bruno doesn't have the gravitas. Which means that whoever gets taken on to replace Len will automatically become Head Judge. Surely then Anton/Brendan/Karen wouldn't stand a chance - they'd all have been fine as a.n.other judge, but Head Judge?? One way through would be to stick with the three judges we have and not take on another, since then the services of a Head Judge wouldn't be needed (Len only seems to use this title when being the deciding vote). But if that happened, there'd be no ballroom expert on a ballroom dancing show... Seems to me that the only answer is to find someone really well known in the field of ballroom dancing who is so far unconnected with the show. Thoughts?

I hope they choose someone from the world of ballroom, with a background of competitor, teacher and judge. I just hope they can find someone who is televisual and I think that, rather then the superiority of their credentials, will be what decides it. My problem with Karen, Anton et al isn't that they don't know their stuff but just that none of them are very natural when a camera is on them

Some weeks ago there was mention of a big bloke who is an acknowledged ballroom/latin expert being in the frame (can't remember his name,) but he hasn't been mentioned recently....

If they recruit two ballroom experts to replace His Grumpiness then they wouldn't need a head judge at all.

Yes, absolutely agree. They need someone with character and charisma as well as the necessary knowledge.

Trouble with that would be that they'd then have five judges, so they'd have to cut the time they speak for, or only allow four of them to speak each time. And of course the scoring would be different.

Plus they should also be aware of diversity. At the moment it's three men and a woman. So perhaps they should look for a woman? But they'd probably argue that with Tess and Claudia presenting, the odds are evened up.

I don't think a 'Head Judge' is required.

In the event of a tie they could go to the public vote.

Problem solved.

I agree. It wouldn't be right for Darcey to have the casting vote as she is not ballroom/latin trained.

Hopefully if they do promote her then they will do what you have suggested. Its a much better way of doing it.

Yes, that would make sense. Then they could go for Anton or whoever as the fourth judge.

Just realised you mean Kevin's dad.

At first I thought it was that mad bloke with the ostrich you meant.

Yes, that's the chap. But as I say, no mention of him recently.
( He's probably had a look at some of the nonsense posted in here and on FB and decided he can do without the aggravation.)

He told me that he would love to do it. He has only just gone back to USA from London, so who knows....

The latter would probably make more sense than Darcey

He would be quite the catch, it would be wonderful if he came on board. He has such a wealth of knowledge and experience with an entertaining personality to boot.

Indeed it would, but there seem to be a number of names thrown into the hat, so we can only but speculate. I hope whoever "they" choose, is suitable and not necessarily known to TV viewers.

If Anton becomes head judge, I'll keep my tin hat theory that they nudged Len out to make room for Anton. If it's somebody else, never mind.

I agree with Len though that whoever it is, it should be someone with ballroom and Latin experience. And that's also why I think Darcey is the wrong choice for head judge. She's also the weakest one on the panel in my eyes.

All this talk about Len's replacement, may be a bit premature.

The time to announce it would be when they start to hype up next year's competition, I mean "show!" They might even drag it out, to get the maximum PR value out of it.
No percentage in announcing it any earlier.

I'm sure that will be the case. But of course it gives them plenty of early publicity to fuel lots of speculation...
