anyone got a Pixel?
no discussion on here, although CPW tell me the Pixel (not the XL) is selling well. Just wondered if anyone owns one and has used it for a couple of months now, and has any views to share on battery life, camera etc.
It comes with unlimited google cloud storage 'for the life of the device'. So what happens if you change phone? |

Me
![]() I'm not 100℅ convinced with it's design but as an everyday device it's up there. I only have the Pixel but the battery life is fine. I certainly don't worry about it running out on a normal days usage. Absolutely no lag whatsoever and no bugs/issues stumbled across yet. I'm currently over in Sweden and it's my first time I've been using the camera heavily and I must say the pictures it takes are fantastic considering. It certainly makes your average point and shoot obsolete. Early days yet but overall very happy with it. |

Doesn't appeal to me.
Appearance-wise, it's one of the biggest iPhone rip-offs I've seen. Only this has a big chin, ugly-looking Android software and no specifications that really make it stand out. It's also very expensive and it isn't waterproof. It has a headphone jack though, so it's better than the iPhone 7. |

Yup. I got the xl a week or so ago now and i like it. I'm not overly keen on the design on the back, but am now rocking a dBrand black carbon fibre skin and it looks lovely now.
That and with Android 7, it's brill. |

I'm very plugged into gmail/google apps so am thinking of the Pixel as actually I like android and I really think the S7 is ugly although would put it in a case. I want good battery life, good screen and good camera.
I normally buy a phone outright on credit card offers and run it for 3 years. I know iPhones keep their value better and I have a mac, but no headphone jack, lousy battery life and iTunes all v offputting. Waterproof doesn't matter to me really as long as it doesn't fail if caught in the rain for 10 mins! |

It's actually a really great phone. Camera is fantastic, I actually like how it looks, good reception and supports EE WiFi Calling and VoLTE. Has good reception too.
I have noticed a small bit of lag creeping in though on my unit in the last few days. May just be mine as I haven't noted any other reports. Indeed, up until a few days ago it flew through everything and it never lagged at all. Overall though, it's ridiculously quick and actually is as fast as the iPhone. The Pixel and the OnePlus 3 are the only Android phones that to me feel as consistently fast as the iPhone. |

I love mine, because the camera is truly amazing - especially at night with HDR+.
But it's overpriced and I still stick my almost everything I said early on. It isn't a massive step up from the Nexus 6P, and I miss stereo front-facing speakers (I actually watch less media on it now than I did on the 6P, but admittedly I use a Mate 9 for video watching - so I guess I'm not really representative of most people with just one phone). The battery life is good, and as an EE user that was another reason I like the Pixel - native Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE support, as well as faster LTE speeds than the 6P. But at the end of the day, whatever marketing nonsense came from Google at the time, it's no different to what the Nexus line was. It's a re-brand, and had it been another Nexus, and sold for less money, I am sure it would have been exactly the same. (Just less profitable for Google!) |

Really quite fancy upgrading to a pixel xl, but would need the 128gb version and I'm not sure what the deal is but these seem to cost between £800 - £1000 when I last looked, Sod that!
So I'm stuck with my old LG G4 for now as I can't see any other 5.5" phone that looks suitable. |

If you fancy the 128 for pictures / videos, then google give you unlimited storage on google photos at full res if you upload from your Pixel.

I had a good play with a Pixel a little while ago. Personally I like them and find them the most tempting of all the high-end Android devices.

I dont have an issue as I use Spotify so I dont need to keep music on it The pixel ticks all the boxes for me apart from the storage. Surely £800+ isn't a sustainable cost for the 128gb pixel XL. |

Looks like the Pixel has been a little slow to sell, they're having some big discounts on it in the USA. Quote:
Verizon had a killer deal on the Pixel and Pixel XL for Black Friday, and now Best Buy is running an even better version of the promotion. Pick up a Pixel from Best Buy, and you can get it for as little as $10 per month. They'll also throw in a $100 Best Buy gift card for your trouble. There wasn't a gift card included with the Verizon deal on Black Friday. Looks like $240 for the Pixel, $360 for the XL.
If you're thinking you'll take Best Buy's free money and use the Pixel on a different carrier, think again. This deal requires you activate the Pixel on Verizon, and the discount is delivered in the form of bill credits each month. The cost should work out to $10 per month for the Pixel and $15 per month for the Pixel XL. The total discount is $410, so tack on a little more if you get the more expensive 128GB phone. This discount brings the total cost of the phone down to as little as $240, which is fantastic. Best Buy's website only shows the free $100 gift card when buying the Pixel, but my local store confirms the full deal is available if you come in. You can also trade in an old phone to lower the cost of the Pixel further. The promo runs through December 25th, but the store will be closed that day. |

Wow, who knew!
I just don't think Google can yet sell products for Apple money. It needs to be a gradual process, if done at all. History repeating itself, which is quite funny. After they overpriced the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6, they admitted the high price had impacted sales.. Yet they did the same thing again! |

Agreed! Samsung can (just about!) sell the S-series for Apple money - for a few months after each launch anyway. Google really should have discounted their first top-end phone to help them get the required reputation (especially since it has become known that HTC had already done most of the design work anyway!)
I'm not sure sales have been that slow as i had a 2 week wait for my Pixel XL from EE due to no stock only a few weeks ago. I'll take a guess this is simply a sale for christmas like most other companies do! Anyone can in reality sell products for a high price if it's any good. That's not an apple exclusive. But apple keep prices high right through the product life when any other product (be it a telly or washing machine etc) always fall in price several months later due to lack of customer demand for the product. That happens to apple as well but they don't reduce the price! |

Bar Apple, I don't think that many people buying an Android phone want to pay a fortune. Samsung has had some success increasing prices, and is now considered an Apple rival.
Most other companies can't get away with it. LG, Sony, Motorola. And then you have Huawei trying to offer high performance for less money, followed by Honor and all the Chinese phones on Amazon etc. Google has now tried twice to establish itself as a premium handset maker and seemingly not done that well. Always great phones but they sell best when at a very competitive price. Does Google have, or expect to have, the same brand value as Apple? It will always do well for search and Google apps, but hardware? Bar the amazing image sensor, most of the Pixel hardware is available elsewhere for less. The assistant is still rather 'meh' too. |
