As a general rule.

Casual shirt if I'm wearing a sweater/jumper.

T-shirt if I'm just slobbing around or going down the match in a hoodie.

You will not see me in a t-shirt in public unless its a band t shirt or something, otherwise its shirts or polos at the most.

I'm 51 and only wear shirts if the wife nags me into it. I'm still in reasonable shape so its t-shirts all the way - once you get saggy manboobs and/or belly then perhaps its best not to wear t-shirts.

By preference I tend to go for the long-sleeve buttoned shirt, have got a few short-sleevers, polos and even the odd T-shirt (those'll be worn with or without a jumper/fleece depending on weather/situation) but something like 70 to 80 percent of my shirt supply is the long sleeve in various colours and styles.

I usually wear either a Polo or short sleeved shirt. Never wear long sleeves or a tie (not even for funerals or weddings!). T-shorts are for when I'm gardening or painting, as I make a mess of them - which is why I buy the rubbish cheap ones from Sports Direct.

Shirt tucked in or out? If out the straight hem shirt is best. I hate a halter hem not tucked in looks awful.
What did you just say? Is a halter hem the curved one, front and back?

it all depends where you are, I am not going to turn up at a wedding in a Fred Perry
I make you right, but I've been to a few funerals where guys have turned up in blue or black jeans and a tee shirt, I used to think that it was disrespectful, but then I thought, maybe they have nothing else, at least they turned up.

Casual shirt. But then, I'm 54.
Casual for me too, but in cold weather I'll maybe have a tee shirt underneath, and I'm 53.

If I am in the mood, still I am proud to say I have never resorted to the back to front baseball cap
Nor had I, until one day I was meandering back from a bar in Albuquerque NM, heading east around 4.00 p.m. as the sun went down behind me, it seemed prudent to switch my Baltimore Orioles ball cap backward, to protect my neck.

I'm partial to grandad collars...be it shirts, long-sleeved tops, or t-shirts.

I do sometimes buy casual shirts with collars but invariably I end up removing them, especially when they get a bit worn.

There's something about the older generation always wearing a shirt, I don't think I've ever seen my Grandad in a t shirt. Personally I can't stand shirts, even the most casual shirt feels too formal. I much prefer a nice t shirt or a polo shirt.

If choosing the casual or scruffy appearance then T shirts do have their use.

Why are men's clothing options so restrictive and unexciting? It really is a shirt or a t shirt isn't it or slight variations on the theme - collar on t shirt, long or short sleeve, pattern or plain. If you really want to push the boat out maybe an epaulette on the shoulder.

Do men mind the lack of options?

Men are simple beings and a burst of colour grabs our attention. ever wonder why, in shopping galleries, the chairs outside are full of men of all ages, puffing and wheezing?

Not in the slightest,…and why would we mind;

…it just makes it easier for women when they tell us what to buy,…or what not to buy.

“ Yes dear, whatever you say, I just thought it might look ok but obviously not,…no I didn’t think which trousers would match,…seems long enough to me,…doesn’t feel tight,….no I didn’t think how you might get the stains out of it,…does this material not wash well then,…my silver & blue striped tie will match this shirt…no,….ok what should I buy then,…..etc etc etc etc “

And you don't have the problem that you need the right bra to be worn with certain tops and dresses and having different styles of knickers for different outfits.

As a person of the female persuasion I will come bounding out of my closet and say men in long sleeved t shirts look lovely especially when they push the sleeves up a bit. Use this information as you will.....

I don’t have that problem as much these days;

…it’s just the occasional weekend now.

A guy with a reasonable bod and confidence and good quality clothes, will look decent in shirts, t- shirts and long sleeved t-shirts.

It only comes down to what the occasion is.

If it helps I always have three levels of shirts

Upper level shirt that you would wear to an interview or something important

Mid level shirt slightly nicer than average shirt for maybe a meal or something

Lower level causal shirt pub crawl round town etc

It's no worries, anyone can look decent if they pick well for them.

I just mean't someone who does have all of those thing's, they can basically wear most thing's and look pretty good.

Meh I can check off all three, along with humility to boot. Shame guys like me are all gay and a shame other guys aren't more like me tbh

I have no idea what you're talking about, but that's way more knowledge than any straight man should have about clothes.

Good man.

I think you can only wear t-shirts if you're in reasonable shape. I can just about get away with it now having lost loads of weight this year.

There's nothing more tragic then a portly middle-aged man in a naff high-street shirt.
