Don't want to wait til xmas morning in case the dos attackers are out in force this year.

If it's a gift for someone else and you are able to safely open the console update and install games on it and re close it I would recommend you do this.

Allot of the initial setup time will depend on how fast your broadband connection is but I would guess you will be able to get the initial update done in about 30 minutes and then you will need to install the games and that can take quite a while.

Done this last night. Yeah took an age to do. Got fifa 17 and halo 5 installed. I'm sure it said that halo was 95gb and had a 50 odd gb update.
Anyway...done,working and wrapped up again.
He can do minecraft and forza horizon 3 himself.

Why is it taking so long to install from disc ?
Have forza horion 3 and it's hardly moving. Can understand downloads being slow but from disc ?

When you install a new game it also installs the updates at the same time which slows it down.

Ok ta. It eventually sped up to a point of being able to play. Maybe it had done the update.

Not in any way stirring anything but does seem slower than ps4 at game installs.

Horizon 3 was a bit of an odd one. I installed it from disc offline and it took over an hour. Then installed the update in less than 10 minutes.

As for the comparison to PS4. I've found that physical installs are faster on PS but updates and downloaded games install faster on XB.

The only thing I would say is if your connecting via WiFi if possible connect using the 5ghz frequency as you will get better download speeds on the console using this.

Having a mare myself with my sons new Xbox One, had issues installing Arkham Knight and Minecraft has disappeared and can't seem to get it back without paying for it.

I just don't get what they done with xb1. Son got titanfall 2 yeterday on disc. Took about 2 hours before he could play it. In contrast my daughter got a ps4 slim and popping a new disc in, she can be playing in like 30 secs.

I think this is something Sony wanted to make sure was fixed after the long installation times on the PS3.
I think Microsoft have worked hard to reduce the initial startup time of games but unfortunately this is still slower than Sony with most games.

PS4 doesn't fully install games on initial setup, XB1 does.

Yeah but means other than an online game where you probably would need the full install. You can't get to play for a long time.
I think it feels worse for me as used to ps4. Then there's the batteries and headset adapter crap too.
Anyway, this is my son's so he can get on with it.

I have both. Batteries/chargepacks last a damn site longer between recharges on the XB1 than the PS4 controllers and never had an issue with headsets with either system.
