Is your family Christmas the same every year?

It's been the same for a few years now. Just me and my dad for Christmas at my place while my brother and mum go away. Perhaps a bit unusual but it works for us. It's nice and quiet and we get some good father/son bonding going on watching Boxing Day football.

All 4 of us used to go away when I was younger and after I moved in with my now ex-wife my parents and brother (still lives at home, probably always will) continued to go on holiday for Christmas. That was set to carry on until my marriage came to an end and my dad ended up in hospital not long before Christmas in the same year. With the holiday already booked it was decided that my bro and mum would still go and that I'd look after dad who didn't really feel up to going away. That also meant I didn't have to spend Christmas on my todd. We all liked it and have kept the same arrangement since then. As long as I stay single and everyone is ok health-wise I imagine it will carry on like that.

The last few years it has usually been spent at my girlfriend's parents house. Go over in the morning. Watch the Mother in law drink 2 bottles of rose wine and make a fool of herself. Leave 7 hours later.

It's in reverse for me. I am a carer for my Mother, so I spend a lot of time with her. However this year, she is going to stay with other family, so Christmas is my actual break and I am able to get some 'me' time. I will be alone over Christmas and I will be cooking myself a ham joint instead of turkey and I will be chilling out, watching television, getting a bit merry and playing computer games.

I am actually dog sitting so that my Mum CAN go to see other people, so it also serves a purpose. Still. Something I am looking forward to

Mum and I will do a New Year's meal probably.

We in the Hebrides have gales of up to 80mph forecast for Christmas so it may be cooking by candles. That will be a new crimbo experience.

Hey, good for you! it's nice to hear somebody looking forward to enjoying a Christmas by themselves, as it's often automatically assumed to be this terrible thing (which I've personally never understood).

Yes, its always stay at home and chill, eat lots of food and drink all the booze. A great time to spend with my folks as we dont always get the time all year round due to work commitments. I wouldnt want to go out for a meal on Xmas day or go to someone elses, we have done that in the past and haven't enjoyed it I mean you cant slouch back and fart can you, but you can in your own home.

It's changed over the years as people die and others join the family we adopt new traditions and drop others.
