1. Does it not bother you that the population is rising by 335,000 per year which is near enough the size of Cardiff.

2. If an 'ageing population' is causing the NHS to struggle more than uncontrolled immigration isn't that even MORE of a reason to control immigration. Not stop but simply control the numbers.

There is no uncontrolled immigration.

EU immigration is controlled by market demand , and the unwillingness of much of the domestic population to learn, train , move or do unpleasant jobs.

Non EU migration is set by rules we write, or by international standards on asylum seekers.

I don't know anyone who is. The government certainly isn't or there wouldn't be such a thing as an illegal immigrant, would there?

Then why aren't EU migrants subject to the same regulations, as the non EU immigrants? They don't have a earnings threshold to work in the UK. They don't have to pass any English tests or English qualification requirement (unless they are from a shortlist of countries, which have English as their first language). Non-EU immigrants need to have at least £945 in savings, be sponsored by an employer and submit their passport to the Border Agency.

To be fair to the OP he's quantified a migration number and asked the forum if we're comfortable with it.

I'm comfortable with it to a point but it's not something that can go on forever.

There's no guarantee it would go on forever or even for five years. Migration figures fluctuate and can start dropping just as quickly as they rise. Anyone who thinks net migration to the UK is going to carry on at the same rate for the next decade must be of the opinion that the place is going to be positively booming and will see healthy growth year on year, as workers will only migrate to places where there are plenty of jobs and the economy is doing well.

We've been through a recession over the last decade and net migration was still high during that period.

Nowhere near as bad a recession as some of the other developed economies in Europe though which is why many migrant workers have made a beeline for Britain. In many ways, the UK is a victim of its own success. If there was a severe recession on (ie. 12% or 15% unemployment), immigration would drop dramatically and the so called freedom of movement "problem" would be solved overnight.....people are not going to emigrate to a country where there are few job vacancies.

Anyone that supported staying in the EU.

Freedom of movement is uncontrolled immigration.

We need to stop net immigration to the UK and if possible have a negative immigration rate so that more people are leaving the country than coming to it.

Ideally we need to half the population of the UK if it is to survive the next century.

Your statement doesn't factor in so many points, as to why immigrants come to the UK and will continue to do so in large amounts. Firstly, immigrants don't only come for the jobs, but many other draw factors. You also think that immigrants are only doing it for their personal self, however a vast majority are coming here for their families. There are so many benefits to the UK, that other countries across the world don't have. There are so many points to cover there are too many to list, so I quickly cover the main ones.

Immigrants want to come to the UK, so their children can get the best education in the world. You can argue other nations are better, but none are free till the age of 16 and with the standards in the UK. A UK degree is very universal across the world too.

There's the health care, where it's free for the most part, and have some of the best standards in the world.

The UK is one of the, if not "the" safest country in the world. Guns are prohibited and hard to obtain. There's law and order upheld by the police. The majority of British are law abiding and have genuine personalities.

Even the toughest of times in the UK economy, it's still a far better economy than the places the immigrants come from.

The list just goes on...............

There's also the aspect of immigrants being sold on the lifestyle of the UK, and getting them to work cheaply by agencies. It isn't just that though, as immigrants have a mental image of the UK, as being a land of great opportunity regardless how the economy is playing out.

For so many reasons, immigration to the UK will continue as it has, unless there's any action taken. It'll continue in this trend for the next decade and more, simply because it's has so many benefits compared to any other nation in the world.

There is no possible way for that to happen.

That's an extreme condition and is unlikely to happen. The UK is virtually at full employment and will probably continue to be for a long time.

People said Trump would never make President.
They said people wouldn't vote for Brexit.

Things can happen. The population will go down one way or another. We should do it voluntarily before nature does it for us.

Then why aren't EU migrants subject to the same regulations, as the non EU immigrants? They don't have a earnings threshold to work in the UK. Non-EU immigrants need to have at least £945 in savings, be sponsored by an employer and submit their passport to the Border Agency.
For the same reason British migrants aren't subject to regulations in EU countries. It's a reciprocal arrangement.

Anyone who voted Brexit.

The plan seems to be to crash sterling, destroy the economy and sell if off to overseas nationals and corporations on the cheap.

Once they own the country they can remove all border controls allow whoever they want in.

Great plan Brexiters.

The far right wanted Trump as president.

The far right supported Brexit.

Oh I see where you're going with this population thing.

The UK is nowhere near true full employment. There have been major manipulations to adjust the figures.

Such as those in part time employment currently looking for full-time employment.
Those on pay below a living wage.
Those in temporary or zero hour contracts.
Those unable to find work but no longer able to register as unemployed.

A survey last year showed the above groups to total around 13 million of the workforce.
