For me the best of the trilogy. Not saying much though, the entire trilogy is fantastic. I was about 10 when Fellowship came out and at that time I was a bit snobbish towards anyone who even mentioned Lord of the Rings since I was a big Harry Potter nerd. Eventually saw LOTRs a few years later when it premiered on Channel 4. I wish I'd seen these on the big screen.

Only Lord of the Rings film I've seen.
I borrowed the extended edition from a friend and still moan on to this day for having to change discs half way through the film. "The Fellowship continues on disc 2". What? I'm comfy, I have to get up?! |

I saw Return of the King on the big screen. Still the greatest cinematic experience of my life (and worst due to drinking nearly 2 litres of Pepsi)

I get why Jackson wanted to release them on two sides for each film, but not all of us are picture quality nerds. |

I feel old I saw the original Star Wars at the cinema so 15yrs is nothing!
I remember in the late 90's Empire Magazine's excitement that Peter Jackson was putting together a cast to film in New Zealand.I followed all the post production, filming and then reviews and I remember feeling as excited to see FOTR as I had been to see Star Wars and I was overwelmed by what I saw onscreen.I became completely obsessed with everything LOTR and I saw each film a ridiculous amount of times at the cinema--and I loved every minute of them.I saw ROTK twice in one day and, by then, my local cinema were sick of seeing me, I'm sure ![]() 15yrs has flown by!! |

I know when the final part of the hobbit trilogy was released, I spent the week leading up to that watching all five films again, although that in itself probably convinced me there were just a bit too long for me nowadays! |

I've started watching it on TV twice but given up both times
Not sure what it is as it's something that ought to be right up my street having read the book all the way through I first read the book in the 1970s and since then I've started reading it again twice and given up both times around the same point, which is approximately the same place where I gave up on the film..................it's about a 100 pages into the book and half an hour into the film I can't explain why I can't get interested in it now .........is it maybe a 'young man's book/film' and once you get to middle age or older you can't be bothered with it........

I had great misgivings about TFOTR
I knew Tom Bombadil (and squeeze) weren't in it. Fair enough but I liked them I was suspicious about making a big thing about the female casting, as if they were going to bump up the female content (3 -Mrs Bombadil + Shelob) In the film I hated the Shire (every accent from Oirish to all the yokel British ones) I didn't like Meriadoc being called Merry Addock, and I wasn't taken with Mooorrrdooor either and in the first attack by the orcs they were so outnumbered you thought what's going to happen with a real battle. And the Legolas arrow thing apart from that they were brilliant |

It's a bit of a shame that it wasn't filmed in 70 mm film. I did hear that Peter Jackson did think about doing that, but at the time the number of cinemas with a 70 mm film projector was dwindling, so he thought against it. It was just before the big digital changeover.
When he made The Hobbit, he did say there were a lot more ways to film a film nowadays - what with IMAX, digital IMAX and he used the HFR(48 frames per second) for that. I don't think it's been used since. As for the LOTOR trilogy, my favourite of the series is Return of the King. I just think the story is stronger in that one. |

Wow. Has it really been fifteen years since I left a cinema and immediately knew I had no interest in seeing films two and three? I didn't even feel that way about The Phantom Menace. Or The Matrix (although I certainly wish I had). Doesn't time fly when you're not wasting what felt like twelve hours of your life.
Here's to avoiding them for the next fifteen years !
