Thought his Samba was too frenetic, as well. And I always think it smacks of desperation when the bare chest comes out.
It was very frenetic.

Like FMs on here who have personal knowledge on certain dance types (there's some who are AT experts for example) the only dance I know well is the samba. I have spent much time in samba schools both in the UK and abroad so have seen it danced exquisitely well. The SCD samba's always disappoint so I try not to judge them too harshly. But the feel of samba in the real world is super cool, laid back and sexy. Danny's was like someone caught in a blender.

Her husband didn't do the German version this year, but did it the year before.
Oti and her husband were treated badly by the German show, so they might not return.
Ah I didn't know that - I knew he'd done it in the past but assumed they'd been on the show together!

How were they treated badly - just not given good celebs or more than that?

If that's the case then maybe they won't return. I'm glad she's getting to do the Strictly live tour, it'd be great to see her dance more over here - I think she'd be brilliant touring with Brendan or Pasha, for example. But I appreciate she's based in Germany so probably wouldn't want to spend the whole year over here!

He had a singer in her mid to late 60's and was eliminated 2nd, and then the next year, he had someone else's girlfriend and was eliminated 1st.
Oti's first partner had legal issues in the past, and was only an OK dancer.
Last spring, she had Niels Ruf, an actor in his early to mid 40's, who was a real duffer, and was eliminated 2nd. Then, a celeb withdrew, but as Ruf was so unlikable, they had to bring someone else back.

Oti might well get a duffer next year, it's up to her to make the best of it.
Katya did pretty well with her duffer
But why should she? Kevin's had a finalist four times in a row now. Why would Oti only be allowed one before being dumped into duffer duty?

I wouldn't want her to have a good chance next year as I'm pretty sure 2017 will be the Year of the Women after two male victories in 2015 and 2016, which means she won't have the chance on winning, plus after two strong candidates I can see her getting a weak celebrity in 2018 (not that that happens all the time, Pasha and Kevin avoided this).

Interesting. I LOVE Samba, but have only ever danced bouncy, stretchy controlled ballroom Samba which is very difficult and incredibly precise but oddly 'free'. Sorry if that description is odd.

I never LIKED Danny's Samba, but thought it was something I didn't understand, perhaps, and I do admire it's physical commitment and he did what he was given well.

But...

You've made me think.

I agree.

I also feel bad for Oti because I have gut feeling that this is the only time that she will be given a contender.
Yep I cant see them giving her a contender four years off the belt like some we shouldd not mention

I would love to see more of her

I really like Oti, after she was voted out last year I liked her professional dances and then I loved her choreography this year. I'm sad she didn't win. I think next year she will be given the 'joke act', but like Katya I think she has a great personality and might carry a joke act quite far.

I'm disappointed for her because she had gone a great job with Danny and I agree with what Danny said in a interview earlier this week that Oti deserves the credit for making him into the dancer he is today not the fact he started off a ringer which I don't think he did.

No matter if Oti stays on Strictly her partnership with Danny is one I will never forget and Showdance and Samba were outstanding

I hope she pulls out of the Strictly tour in protest...the "viewers" don't deserve to see her dancing after failing to vote for her when she was clearly the best dancer.

I will be totally honest......

I have loved watching Oti rather than watching Danny.....his "ringah" status put me right off from the onset but I have commented often and very positively about Oti's incredible choreography, trust and vision.....and legs!!!

Tonight I have to say that their showdance was spectacular to the point I actually whooped and applauded at the end.....I loved it. Far better than the others although I loved Kevin and Louises from the sheer romance and contemporary style.

When the winner was announced I truly felt for Oti..........I don't think she will ever get such a fabulous opportunity to lift the trophy again, and I said to my OH who wasn't even watching - she must have asked herself what else she could have done. She must be gutted.
Me too, it blew my socks off!

Danny and Oti's final dances are the most watched so far, so she did something right.

It's a bloody shame that they didn't win. I didn't expect them to but it's still really disappointing that they didn't.

Thats a great testament to them, and her amazing choreo..i loved her AT as well.

I agree with another poster, she will be celebrating with her mate Joanne. It really seems that she has gelled on the UK version of strictly..so i really hope she returns. Love her to bits as a person as well...so grounded.

Yeah, ultimately..DOTI were never going to beat the system..and i feel for Danny and Claudia as well, as they were terrific contenders.

A PASHA + OTI tour..as someone else suggested..OH YESSS PLEASE!!!!

It really is.

I really don't think that Danny and Oti were desperate to win. I believe Danny when he said he was just happy to be able to do all of the dances. Danny had such a sweet reaction to Ore winning.

I don't think that Danny and Oti stood a chance of winning.

As I pointed out in another thread, I hope that the Danny knockers noticed that he was the first to rush over to Ore to give him a bear hug, he looked genuinely delighted for him, because that is the sort of guy he is.

It's the only time I've liked watching a Samba.
TBH Samba, Salsa and Rumba are all dances I could happily do without on Strictly.

I agree, in fact all of Danny's dances seem to go the same way. I have always been impressed with the performances but not always with the actual dancing.
The dances are mostly full on, too much energy - which needs to be controlled - put in to the dance in the wrong way. If you don't move and apply the energy in a controlled way, correctly, it ends up looking rushed and sometimes messy. With Danny's dancing, I struggle to see any finesse, elegance or light and shade. Its all very one paced - high speed. I daresay this appeals to a lot of viewers, they like the impact it creates, but that does not mean it has been danced well. Ore is such a classy dancer and knows the meaning of subtle. Jo has taught him well.

I hope and think that Oti will be back, she's only mid 20's so I would expect her to get a chance again in the next two/three series. She did have that young boxer last series so it would probably be reasonable to expect an older celeb for her next year.

I did like some of their dances Samba for example, but agree that some of them were too full on all the time.

I can see why people liked the samba, especially if they'd never seen that kind of West- African-influenced dancing before, and the song is fabulous. I think that was his turning point in terms of connecting to a wider audience--from then on his appreciation thread seemed to get a lot busier.

I could only enjoy it by focusing on Oti the whole time, as Danny's side of it looked so messy.

This is interesting as if you read these forums and the press apparently Danny is the biggest ringer ever, in fact a professional in the west end who dances to a professional standard .... oh but hang on a minute - he can't dance!!!!!!! It very confusing.
For what it's worth I thought there was plenty of light and shade.

Hi Jennifer - if you're still around can I ask, do you think this is an issue Oti could have either trained out of him or avoided if she chose different choreography or did she have to work around it because it couldn't be altered?

I have never said he is a ringah - I have no problems at all with celebs that can dance, whether they be dance trained or nor, as long as they have not been trained in the specifics of ballroom and latin, which are completely different from any dance genre.

Yes he is a professional dancer, but not a professional ballroom or latin dancer, this is something quite different obviously.

He can dance, of course he can, but he doesn't have the necessary skills for ballroom and latin, those with a trained eye can see this. He "fakes" it well and it is clear that Oti choreographed to his strengths but he to my eyes, does not dance ballroom or latin to as high a standard as Ore for example.

Jo having been taught from a very young age, has a very solid back ground in technique and she has taught Ore this to the best of her ability. It is this that I see in Ore's dancing, the subtleties, the technique, smoothness etc.

Sometimes, actually quite often, less is more.

Bit of both I suspect. Its easier sometimes to teach someone that knows nothing rather than to re-train them to learn. I guess with the limited time that have to learn dances, Oti went with what she could use, and fabulous it was too. Danny is a wonderful dancer, for stage work, but looking from a ballroom/latin dancers viewpoint, not quite so great. I see so much wrong, especially in ballroom when he makes the dance so physical,.....

Thanks. So in a sense, like Claudia, his prior training was actually a hindrance rather than a help?
