Well, to be fair, as Len himself has pointed out in interviews, the GBP love an underdog, so praising Danny to high heaven wasn't exactly going to win out over the "Ore has never danced before, he's such a plucky amateur that worked hard and got better, he's what Strictly is all about" narrative.
(Of course, completely ignoring the fact that Ore was actually just a naturally good dancer who was the first to get 10's, and in fact got THREE tens in week four of all things. So...yeah, the "struggling underdog who works hard to keep up with the dirty ringahs!" narrative rang really hollow to me.) |

I agree with your last paragraph. Ore was never crap. He had no real journey.
His just wasn't the "ugly duckling who slowly but surely blossomed into a real dancer who could keep up with the dirty ringahs". He could always keep up with them, and beat them on more than one occasion. |

Well, I wouldn't say he had no journey. They all did in one form or another.

The PTB of Strictly asked Danny Mac and Louise to take part in Strictly . They were happy to have them take part and pull in the numbers ,
Then all week long Zoe bleated on and on that Ore HAD NEVER DANCED BEFORe and made sure we all heard . Then Len stood up and clapped for Ore WHO HAD NEVER DANCED BEFORE and made damn sure we all heard that he was not as experienced as the other two who were also standing within earshot . If the PTB dont want anyone who has some experience then dont bloody well ask them and then throw them under the bus at the last busstop |

That was the reason given for them previously being happy to engage celebs who have danced or been trained to some degree in some dance genre, albeit not necessarily in the disciplines of Latin and ballroom. I think it underlines the ethos of the show being primarily designed as a vehicle for light entertainment, rather than an attempt to kick start a new career for an unknown, in the manner that X Factor purportedly does.

Thats my point .They are happy to engage them and were happy to have Danny and then turned it around so Ore was suddenly the flavour of the day because he hadnt
Unfortunately Danny - perhaps due to the pressure he was under as bookies' favourite, - caved under the pressure on the night, whereas Ore did not. Danny looked a bit desperate at times, causing his dancing to suffer. This however may simply be down to their respective personalities. Maybe Ore simply copes better under pressure and Danny does not. Danny has nothing to be ashamed of but equally I see no reason why Ore should not receive the credit he deserves. Both guys had excellent pro dancers who worked to their respective strengths. It's just that on the night that it mattered, Ore turned out to be the one who upped his game to the standard required and Danny made a few unfortunate errors and generally looked a little less comfortable in his performances. Plus, he had to wear these nasty brown trousers again.

But so what? The fact still remains that Ore had no background in dance or performance and not mentioning it wouldn't change that fact.

Well in my opinion to set the seed in the voters . Its how I feel and how I read it Len actually said something to Ore like " you are the embodiment of the spirit of Strictly " ( not sure of the words) Well it wasn't very kind to the other two finalists standing within earshot |

I actually agree with you . I was so rooting for Danny but Ore stepped up his game when it was the right moment .

Its how I feel and how I read it I don't think it's out of the ordinary at all to state that someone's lack of dance experience is a critical factor in determining how well they are deemed to dance. After all, when accusations of "ringerdom" are bandied about so freely, it seems only fair to make it explicitly clear that a non-dancer IS a non-dancer.For a lot of people they don't actually care whether he had no dance experience or not because they had their chosen favourite already anyway but for others, they may have seen Ore's progression through the competition as indicative of learning from square one, rather than square twenty one... and see it as more a impressive achievement overall on that basis. Ore may just simply be someone who happens to have innate ability - as some people inevitably will have - and that up until now he never had the inclination or opportunity to develop it. |

But that was his selling point and as a producer it would seem a bit daft not to go with that line tbf.

The thing is though ducky.... as a judge Len is asked for his opinion. If that IS his opinion, why should he not be permitted to say so?

Fair enough if TPTB want that to be the spirit of Strictly then don't head hunt anyone who does . It seemed unfair to me to make Ore look like the " spirit of Strictly " Were two others in the final not then ? |

Rightly or wrongly, the notion of "ringers" is highly controversial and whilst I don't expect that the show's producers consider this forum to be a microcosm of public opinion, the "ringer" thing on here has generated a lot of arguments for and against having potential ringers competing on the show, as they are deemed to have a significant advantage from the outset. For that reason, it could be suggested that mentioning Ore's non-dancing credentials was simply intended to balance out any perceived advantage that the stage school performers may have had.

Most improved from what? He got 39 in week 4!
) Claudia went on a bigger journey than Ore in multiple aspects (with the performance improving as well as the dancing, neither of which Ore particularly struggled with) but by the following week apparently vanished off the face of the earth (I seem to remember Zoe even saying something along the lines of "Thank god he survived" when introducing Danny, which may be me being overly cynical but felt inappropriate).Ore's dances week 4 to the semi final are a blur to me, maybe because in the majority of them he does that irritating shrug-casual-cool-guy thing, or maybe because they weren't all that good. I say this as someone who has liked Ore as a person throughout the series, but last night, I think Danny (despite the mistakes in his Quickstep) and even Louise outperformed him, and the judges favouring him throughout the series and ignoring his mistakes hasn't helped me warm to his dancing. But at the end of the day, that's my opinion and obviously more people disagree with me which is why he won. Just a shame that for a second year in a row I'm left underwhelmed by the winner.

Funny how Len has never had a problem with ringers in the past. We got it Len, your double standing ovation and twice reminding the public that Ore was an "amateur" said everything about your impartiality
