I know Bruce has been ill recently and I never expected a video message tonight for Len but did hope for a letter to be read out.

I hope he gets better soon

I was surprised we didn't get a message from Brucie.

Last I heard about Brucie was that he was struggling to move. Doesn't sound good

Poor Bruce is in very very bad health. I doubt he was up for even a video message. Oh and there is none for the christmas special either.

It is concerning that he didn't record a message for Len. I think reading between the lines he's deteroriated quite a lot since he left the show

This is show business.
Strictly has moved on.
I'm surprised anyone expected Bruce to have been mentioned. It was Len's night, Bruce has had many of them.
It was probably considered that it would have taken something away from the night, to "mention a former presenter in poor health."

I'm glad we didn't get a video message off him or any mention of him. I don't wish him ill health but I've never liked him - he always thought the show was about him. Says it all that the show is enjoying its highest ratings without that old duffer at the helm.

That's is so shocking to say that.. You should be ashamed of yourself and I invite you to withdraw it right now

Why do you feel the truth is shocking? Nakatomi has nothing to be ashamed of just because you disagree with him/her. We are all entitled to our own opinions.

I agree and I wasn't a fan of Brucie either - but there's a time and place and way to say things and that opinion stated so bluntly on a thread over concerns about the dude's health doesn't quality under appropriate on any of those counts.

Just been overtaken by this year's which has an average of about 12.2million. Basically - the show did well even without Brucie, and they've actually made the show increase its viewing average every year since he left.

The way 2016 is ending like it started - I for one am not hopeful.

In fairness though he's in his late 80s - the term good innings comes to mind. If anyone thinks I'm being flip I lost my dad this year at age 71. Sadly people don't last forever and we've lost cultural icons who were very sadly much younger than both of them.

That's correct and added were those who became bored with X-Factor.

Brucie bothered me and I sincerely wish him well in his retirement.

I think it was correct that his last message on Strictly was on Christmas Day 2015 and he was very frail then.
That was when he finally left Strictly.

Was that really necessary, Nakatomi?

For pure numbers, yes. For audience share it was this year by a mile.

Numbers matter more, having a higher share just means less people were watching tv overall at that particular time

Really? When fewer people are watching "as broadcast" TV, the important thing is to maintain your share. The fact Strictly is managing to stay close to 2010 figures six years later shows they are providing a show people still want to watch in sufficient numbers.

I'm not saying the numbers aren't fantastic, just that numbers are the things that are more important at the end of the day
