Looks like you know that driving whilst trying to smoke is dangerous. Then most will agree that they have seen clowns throwing out their fag ends out of cars and littering the streets and putting the public at risk.

This thread is quite fun, not so sure you are going about it in the right way Princess.

But in my view, no one should be doing anything else while they drive, apart from driving!!

And i have seen the walking public littering the streets and putting the public at risk, the rubbish flys around in the wind and could blow onto a window on a car blocking the drivers view. the number of people that smoke is going down all of the time, but the litter on the streets is going up

Rather than banning smoking and driving, I believe we should just illegalise smoking entirely. Nothing good comes from smoking.

I've been to a circus many times but have never seen a clown smoking.

Smoking and driving is a big no, no. Then these clowns not just little our roads/pavements with their garbage but put at risk other road users against by the danger of their fag end dropping in someone else's car, or someone's child's pushchair/pram as they travel along the pavement.”

Why do you keep calling people clowns?

Why are smokers parasites?

Do you consider everyone who drops litter as clowns and parasites or is it just smokers?

Probably not California. I think they shoot smokers there.

But the accident statistics show no correlation, and I suspect you'll find no, or very very few pushchair/pram accidents. Especially since they've been required to be flame retardent.

Personally I'm more concerned that there are people who think it's somehow difficult to smoke & drive. It doesn't suggest they've got very good hand/eye co-ordination.

I think we may be uncovering a case of capnophobia with a side order of coulrophobia. But clowns can smoke. It's just not recommended to smoke and drink, else unco-ordinated lighting attempts may lead to a lasting red nose.

But why is smoking and driving dangerous, explain?

Along with alcohol, sugar , fast food...

Or maybe we could go down the route our friends across the pond are going, restricting smoking cigarettes while legalising marijuana use!

They're not claiming driving and smoking is dangerous, only "trying" to smoke.

So accomplished smokers are fine, is the amateurs who can't do it properly that are the problem.

In the OP it was

'Every day I see smokers trying to drive'

She needs to make her mind up

not sure is this is a rhetorical question.

With respect, anyone with more than 2 brain cells will tell you that it is not safe to drive with one hand holding a burning item that could drop on you laps, down your t-shirt as one poster said. Importantly, 99% of the drivers/smokers do on the whole throw out their fag end and that could land in someone's car. pram, child seat/etc/etc.

Honestly, when I see a driver/passenger throw out their fag end, i wish i had it in me to pull them up, give them a good slap and shove it in their mouth.

By that the poster means, no singing, no whistling, no talking, no fidgeting, no nothing...apart from driving. In your case, alone.

You aren't very observant at all are you? No smokers hold a cigarette in their hand, it's held between two fingers. The hand is on the wheel. As for this fictitious 99% figure you keep banging on about, post up factual links showing it. You won't be able to as no such statistic exists, except in your wild imagination.

You're trying too hard to spin it out, OP.

You've done the imaginary '99%' to death.

You need a new ctachphrase.

Hand/fingers, note that both parts of the hand are used to drive and that is a fact.

These clowns that throw out their fag ends and a conservative estimate is about 99% - why do smokers that try to drive trash our streets and could not care less if their fag butt landed in someones car, child seat/ETc/etc??? The same clowns must also be throwing the rest of the trash out on the street.

These smokers/ so-called drivers, why do they have their windows open even in the cold, why not keep the smoke in the car to enjoy it, more for your money? Or is it because they are busy flicking out their ash into pedestrians faces and onto the street and other people's cars this bunch of selfish, brainless, littering losers.

Can we have a very, very unscientific poll? Are you a smoker who throws lit cigarette ends out of your car window? Let's see if we get a 99% outcome

I'll go first.

Yes, I'm a smoker and I've never thrown one.

As a rabid anti-smoker you have no comprehension of how a smoker who drives can easily have both hands on the wheel whilst holding a cigarette between two fingers.

Incidentally you also overlooked the fact when driving a manual car which most are, it's necessary to remove one hand from the wheel to change gear. In heavy town/city traffic this procedure will be required regularly.

Obviously you don't drive. Thank God.

Smoker. Have used the window. Only time I'm aware of fag end landing on a seat was a blowback event where airflow blew it back in and it landed on the rear seat. So I calmly pulled over and sorted it. No children were harmed.

But I do have a solution. Car manufacturers could fit a 'Mumsnet' mode that seals all car windows to protect driver and passengers from any external threats.

(Some exclusions would apply, eg doesn't protect against Brimstones, but they're mostly a threat to Toyota drivers.)

Not many would admit to that would they!

It's like asking, who lets their dog dump on pavements, roads, even other peoples front gardens, not clear it and let a poor, unsuspecting child step in the pile of S!! A park near us banned dogs but clowns still take them there, in the summer a 3 yr old fell over when running and face landed in dog mess

I did not want to make the simple fact of smoking and driving is dangerous by adding the manual car element. Most smokers drive r the cheaper manual cars and are even a greater risk toother road users and pedstrians. How can you hold a steering with one hand holding a firestick and take the other hand off the steering to change gears
