The Saturday People
Obviously, since Christmas Day is a Sunday, there'll be no Sunday papers next weekend, right? Wrong. For one week only, the Sunday People is out on SATURDAY! And will still be on sale on Boxing Day if it doesn't sell out. I wonder if this has happened before, a Sunday paper on the wrong day because the shops are closed on the usual one?

I was off Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, went back to work Boxing Day, figured out the People must have published on Saturday when I went to do the newspaper returns at close of trade and saw "Christmas People" on the collection note.
Can't think of any occasions which would match the original question though. Last time Christmas Day was on a Sunday was 2011 and I wasn't in retail at that time so don't recall any Sunday papers that year publishing on Christmas Eve. |

Would they have published in Scotland because New Year's Day is the big holiday there ?

I've since heard that the Sunday Post also published on Christmas Eve (though possibly only in Scotland, as I didn't see it and the shop I went to on Christmas Eve normally does stock it).
And yes, there will have been papers yesterday, even in Scotland - this Christmas People was only available in England and Wales, so no paper yesterday would've meant skipping two weeks in a row! |
