Danny and Oti's was fantastic and exactly what a showdance should be. They actually told a story and didn't over-rely on props. Equally, there was lots of dance content and not just needless lifts.

Frankly, people who say it was too dramatic need to give their heads a wobble. Generic showdances are boring, quite frankly and whilst Ore's was good it wasn't even in the same league as Danny's.

Hmm, we could switch and talk about most memorable - but if we do that then the Bacofoil incident would come up and I'm not sure I can afford to lose all that time rereading the threads from that weekend

Tom and Camilla's showdance is still the best for me - but I will admit I also really liked Jason and Kristina's! Caroline's was also memorable, and brilliantly done. Very few showdances stick in my memory but all of those do.

I agree. Joanne choreographed a great showdance that was reminiscent of the golden age of Hollywood. For me, Danny's dancing was too frenetic - as, in fact, was his Samba. I didn't enjoy either.
Well that's you but frenetic it wasn't. It was energetic and perfectly controlled. Maybe you like to live in the 1950s but I'm glad we have at least one choreographer who is willing to try new and innovative dance styles like Oti. Gleb was the same and moved to DWTS because they are a bit more open to modern dance compared to Strictly. I hope Oti doesn't do the same.

No need to get personal .
It was frenetic . It was angry and controlled chaos and way too contemporary for a final show dance . Much of it was a repeat of their samba anyway , although at least the samba was less aggressive .
They took a punt on using a shock wham-bam routine and it backfired . Oh well .

I loved Danny and Oti's showdance. The only one from last night I would watch again, which is saying something because I can't bear Adele (but the bonus last night was that it wasn't actually Adele singing). I didn't enjoy Ore and Joanne's, I think it's Joanne's choreography, I just haven't enjoyed much of it this series at all. Obviously others have and that's great, but it hasn't excited me like Oti's has.

Danny and Oti's showdance is definitely one of my favourite show dances ever.

Tom & Camilla still the best showdance ever though.
Indeed.

I liked it, but liked Ore's more.

Doti's showdance was a touch too dramatic and torrid. It was theatrical at the expense of finesse and didn't show what a terrific dancer he is (as well as it might have done, anyway ).

Still the best dancer over the course of the series though .
I love D'Oti and had wanted them to win- but what on earth got them so aerated about what they could see in the mirror- a zit? bad hair day? first wrinkle? It was so angsty and busy but without an actual story that I could get to grips with. And the lifts felt a bit unnecessary, getting in the way of whatever was supposed to be going on.

Ore's impressed me most.

Contemporary can work as we saw with Caroline and Louis but yes I found this one a bit too much going on.

That said, it made a change for all 3 showdances not to be nothing but lift fests.

Oti isn't the only pro to have tried a contemporary showdance. However previous ones have been better than hers.

You're entitled to think it's frenetic if that's what you think, others are entitled to disagree, but in terms of dance content it wasn't Samba in the slightest, it was Paso and Argentine Tango mixed in with contemporary.

And there's no such thing as "too contemporary" in factual terms - there are no rules in the showdances, and there was just as much lyrical/contemporary in Louise & Kevin'as showdance, if not more.

You have no idea what did or didn't drive voters to vote for Danny, so it may have backfired for you, but it didn't for everyon - some people will always like something, some will always dislike it. Dance of the night by miles in my opinion.

I've nothing against contemporary dance Jeff . I just found this one far too aggressive . I thought that by the end there'd be some sort of softening where the couple became (bear with my non dancer terms) more enamoured, balletic , romantic----to display a more full range of their abilities .
I just dislike angry dancing and it seemed an odd choice to make their showdance 100% about aggression and conflict .

Bib . Where did I say they weren't ?
Nor did I say it was Samba .
But it most certainly used elements of their successful samba routine .Definitely .

No, I live in the twenty-tens, wasn't alive in the 1950s. Just happen to prefer a different style of dance to you. Just happen to think that Oti over-egged both the samba and the showdance, resulting in routines that were too frenetic and lacking in light-and-shade for my taste.

Thank you ! That's the expression I was fumbling around for ---light and Shade .
There was no light at all , just all shade and black angry aggression . Must have been very draining to perform such a negative routine .

I agree about the elements of Samba. It was very apparent.

Well I'm a fan of DWTS and therefore more than happy with new and innovative styles so I'm not sure what you're going to throw at me as very much not living in the 50s but I have to agree that Danny and Oti was not the best showdance on offer. And if we're bringing DWTS into it, I'm afraid Oti's choreography was not a patch on that of show, jazz and contemporary dances provided for their partners by Derek Hough, Sharna Burgess, Val Chmerkovskiy, and Mark Ballas in the last two years alone. If you want to see how to use a frame prop, try Bindi and Derek's Jazz (in a trio with Mark Ballas) for example.

I bet those people who didn't like Danny's showdance would have booed The Rite Of Spring at it's Paris premiere.

Which is like comparing apples to oranges. Big oranges!

Rite of Spring is a complete ballet/dance and was also a showcase for the actual music (it's actually one of my favourite classical pieces and has been for many years. I love Stravinsky).

Yes, it shocked people at the time - they left the theatre where it was being performed in droves.

But it was not simply something to watch. It was also something to listen to.

Danny and Oti's showdance was a visual performance where the music was not also vying for attention but was simply a means to an end. And, by the way, I loved it. I was a Danny fan ... unfortunately I was an Ore fan as well! Having my two favourites in the final was bittersweet because at least one of them was always going to lose.

And another vote here for Tom and Camilla .... I was in a minority that year because I loved Tom. But I was elated when they won... and the showdance was fantastic. And still remembered! 😁

I may have to go re-watch it now!!!!

I really liked Danny's showdance. It told a good story was full of drama and was danced fabulously. However, I just felt Ore's was really special. I could see the attention to detail Jo had put into choreographing every step and was amazed by how well Ore managed to pick it up and get each part so right. Whilst at the same time my main focus was loving how much they were loving it. It's one of few dances where I was actually a bit sad when it ended.

I expect I will need a tin hat by saying that I didn't really like Tom and Camilla's showdance. It seemed too rehearsed if you know what I mean. It looked as though it had been taken from a stage show or film. Just my opinion so don't shoot me down please.

I like two different showdances - Jay and Aliona's subtle take on the whole experience of Strictly and Danny and Oti's exuberant dance on Saturday, both of which I have rewatched!

It was a good show dance, but Ore's was better. And I voted for Danny

Tom & Camilla still the best showdance ever though.
I agree, great fun it was.

I didn't much go for ore's show dance, a lot of ballroom and he had just done an AS so I didn't think there was enough variation.

Ha probably. Philistines!
Loved it. So intriguing .. I was caught up in it which is what I want from a showdance.

I loved their Samba and was supporting them in the final, but have to say I wasn't a fan of their showdance.

I liked the sound of it from Oti's description in the VT, the story of the dance paralleling Danny's journey (sorry Claudia) from shy ballroom novice to confident showman, but in practice there were a few seconds of looking slightly sheepish at the start and then full on attack for the rest of the dance.

Just came across as frantic and overwrought to me, too much noise and too little nuance.

Natalie Gumede's was the best showdance ever.

All that contemporary airy-fairy wafting that Caroline and Pasha did doesn't excite me and I just found Tom Chambers annoying beyond words.
Natalie & Artem's dance was like a 1950s movie. You could have been watching Cyd Charise.
Most memorable showdance by a long way imo.
'Nother vote for touching the divine here.

Danny and Oti gave us a fantastic showdance, though for me the edge was taken off theirs and Ore's and Joanne's by the similar "look and feel" of their routines to their first numbers.
